A dad accused of drugging his 12-year-old daughter's friends by spiking their mango smoothies as he "watched them sleep" during a sleepover has been arrested.

Michael Meyden, 57, from Oregon, faces multiple charges after the girls tested positive for Benzodiazepines in hospital following a sleepover at his £1million Lake Oswego home in August last year. The dad was released on a £40,000 bail last week. One of the terrified girls claims the dad was "doing tests" to see if they were conscious during the sleepover while they pretended to sleep. The victim desperately texted a family friend begging for a ride home.

The girl said her friend's dad was making her feel unsafe after he had coerced her and two other girls into drinking the smoothies he had laced with benzodiazepine, a depressant that slows the nervous system.

“So I’m ‘sleeping,’ and her dad comes down and [I’m] hugging [one of the other girls] because she was scared, and he kept moving us away from each other but kept doing tests to make sure we weren’t awake,” the girl wrote in a text.

“Also, [the other girl] won’t wake up and she did for like 2 seconds, but she kept her eyes closed and didn’t talk,” the girl added before the family friend agreed to pick her up from Meyden's home.

Who is Michael Meyden?

The 57-year-old dad is an Arizona State University graduate and a human resources manager accused of drugging his daughter's friends with spiked smoothies at his £1million Lake Oswego home in August last year.

He shared the home with his wife Yukiko Ishida-Meyer but she filed for divorce in October and his current address is listed as an RV park in Vancouver.

What happened at the sleepover?

According to the affidavit, Meyden was "highly involved" in the sleepover which saw three girls joining his daughter for a "spa night" at his home on August 26.

He took them out to get their nails done and collected pizza for their dinner. However, before the girls went to bed he is accused of making them two mango smoothies each which he "insisted" they drink.

"Mr. Meyden specifically gave each of the girls specific coloured reusable straws to distinguish their own drink," the probable cause affidavit claims. "Mr. Meyden was adamant that the girls drink out of their own cups.

"One girl drank both her smoothies, and another girl drank one glass, but the third said she did not like the smoothies and barely drank any at all", police said.

In addition, one of the girls said that the drinks appeared to have "tiny white chunks" in them and that Meyden's own daughter appeared to have drunk a large amount.

Why did the dad allegedly 'put his finger underneath the nose of the awake girl'?

After the smoothies, the girls returned to the basement where two of them slept in a bedroom and the others on a pull-out sofa. The girl who was undrugged remained awake and claims she saw Meyden come into the room and pull the spiked girl away from her.

However, when he disappeared upstairs the girl pulled her unconscious friend back next to her to find Meyden had returned and allegedly pulled her away again, according to the affidavit.

"He put his finger underneath the nose of the awake girl as if to see if she was soundly asleep, he then waved his hand in front of her face," she told police.

What was the desperate text sent to parents at 3am?

After Meyden allegedly went back inside, the concerned friend began texting her parents and was able to reach a family friend, who went to the home and drove her back.

The parents of the other two girls arrived after hearing the concerns but Meyden was allegedly hesitant to let them collect their children at around 3am, saying they were asleep.

What did the hospital tests reveal?

Concerned parents took their children to Randall Children's Hospital where they tested positive for benzodiazepines, a drug mainly used to calm anxiety.

The girl who drank the two smoothies said she began to feel "woozy, hot and clumsy" after finishing the second. She then "blacked out" and fell into a "thick, deep sleep", according to the affidavit.

Meyden has been charged with three felony counts of causing another person to ingest a controlled substance, three felony counts of applying a schedule IV controlled substance to the body of a minor and three misdemeanour counts of delivering to a minor a schedule IV controlled substance.

He surrendered at the Clackamas County Jail on Tuesday and pleaded not guilty at an arraignment hearing on Wednesday before being released on a £40,000 bail.
