Richarlison laid into Conte in furious Tottenham meeting after misunderstanding
Tottenham ace Richarlison unleashed a tirade of criticism at former Spurs boss Antonio Conte when he was expected to apologise for being late.
The Brazilian forward held little back as he misunderstood what the Italian coach meant when he was asked if he had anything to say following poor time keeping. Richarlison arrived at Spurs in a £60million deal from Everton with Conte at the helm.
The former Watford forward managed just two goals in 27 games during his time playing under Conte. The 26-year-old has notched 11 goals in 25 appearances under current boss Ange Postecoglou.
In discussion with Brazilian YouTuber Fred on the Desimpedidos channel, Richarlison and Emerson Royal talked about the moment that left teammates laughing last term. Royal explained the scenario where a number of players were late.
The defender said: "He arrived late at the meeting on the day of the game, and the guy [Conte] said 'do you have something to say to the team? Do you want to apologize to the team?'
Antonio Conte to undergo surgery after Spurs boss became unwell with severe pain"He asked the other guys who had arrived late too, the guys said 'no, just sorry', then I don't know what got into [Richarlison]. He was supposed to apologize to the group and to [Conte], right?
"Then he said 'ah, I think I need more minutes [of game time]'. I think he understood it that the guy asked if he had anything, something to talk about, then he started saying that the formation we played in was (swears). He said a couple of things."
Richarlison provided further clarity: "I came out saying everything that came to mind. 'I need more minutes', 'this formation is no good', 'I didn't adapt', 'this formation is (swears)'
"I started talking, then the guys behind started laughing and I said what am I doing here? I didn't understand what he had asked, I started saying what I had already rehearsed."
Richarlison is currently out with a knee injury and may not return until after March's international break. Though, he has been named in Brazil's squad for the end of the month.
Postecoglou said last week: "Luckily we’ve got the international break in between so hopefully it only means he’ll miss a few games this side of it and be ready for after."
