Today it was announced that Meghan Markle has joined the lineup for the South by Southwest Festival, with the Duchess of Sussex set to appear alongside other famous faces.

Meghan is now gearing up to participate in the opening day keynote which is titled Breaking Barriers, Shaping Narratives: How Women Lead On and Off the Screen. Joining Meghan will be journalist Katie Couric, actress Brooke Shields and diversity equity and inclusion consultant at Peoplism, Nancy Wang Yuen.

It has now resurfaced that Meghan and journalist Katie Couric have a hidden link, with the 67-year-old broadcaster having spoken out about Meghan's husband Prince Harry in the past.

In Katie's memoir, she revealed that Prince Harry "stunk of cigarettes and alcohol" when she first met him. This emerged in 2021 when the Daily Mail obtained a manuscript of Katie's book Going There.

According to the outlet, Katie first met Prince Harry in 2012 when they both attended a polo match in Brazil. Katie is reported to have said that the now-Duke was in his "wild-oats sowing phase". This was before he met, dated and married his now-wife, who is the mother of his two children.

And in her 2021 memoir, she is reported to have recalled how Prince Harry smelled strongly of cigarettes and that alcohol seemed to "ooze from every pore" of his body.

This comes after it was announced that Katie would join the panel that Meghan will speak on this weekend at SXSW Festival. Meghan, Katie, Brooke and Nancy's keynote session will take place on March 8, the opening day of SXSW, which also happens to be International Women’s Day.

The session will focus on "how the ubiquitous nature of social media is creating an often dangerous environment which has led to serious mental health issues for teenage girls in particular," according to the festival description. The announcement also touched on how women’s representation in media and entertainment "has come a long way, but there's still much to be done, especially for women of color and mothers".
