An alleged burglar was caught in a compromising position when officers stormed into his bathroom in the middle of the night.

The Colorado police department released grim video footage of the moment they stormed in on the suspect while he was on the toilet. Police had received reports of a burglary in process in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Officers with the Lakewood police then rushed to the property at around 4am, where they came across the suspect who was quite literally "caught with his pants down". Footage from a bodycam shows a heavily armed officer pushing open a door and walking in on the suspect sitting on the toilet.

The man put his hands up while saying: "I’m on the s–tter, bud." Following police orders to surrender, the man then gets off the toilet, stands up and raises his hands above his head in surrender.

His trousers are still down around his ankles. Cops used a drone to help track the alleged burglar down, according to a post on Facebook from the department. He was taken to jail where he is being held charged with second-degree burglary.

The post read: "You know the ol’ adage 'caught with your pants down?' Somebody should’ve told this burglary suspect who was arrested by Lakewood Police Agents early this morning. When a verified burglary alarm went off, Agents quickly got to the scene and utilized a drone to look for a suspect.

"While we see a lot of things in the line of doody, we had no clue what awaited us this time! The suspect was taken to jail (after pulling his pants up) and is being held on 2nd degree burglary charges. Overall great teamwork by our Patrol and Drone Teams."

It comes after two police officers were recently given their very own "Hot Fuzz" moment when they were tasked with chasing a wild swan out on the streets of Hampshire in the UK. Back in 2007, Sean Pegg, playing hardened Copper, Sergeant Angel, and his partner, PC Danny Butterman, played by Nick Frost, pursued a rogue swan, that had escaped from a castle, owned by a PI Staker, who the protagonist initially referred to as 'P**s taker', thinking he was making the situation up.

The whole fiasco was so far-fetched that even fictional characters didn't take it seriously. Therefore, when two officers from Hampshire Constabulary received the call, they must have thought it was a joke. But it wasn't.

While they probably didn't attempt impressions of the animal or stop midway through to get a Cornetto, the two partners had a very real situation on their hands, that required the utmost professionalism. After responding to a call about "a swan in distress", the duo's search began, with them eventually finding the graceful creature on a busy road near a roundabout in Portsmouth.
