Tottenham are eyeing a move for Sporting Lisbon's Morten Hjulmand - which could leave the midfielder in an awkward predicament given his love for Arsenal.

The Danish international grew up a Gunners fan and even has their crest tattooed on his left arm. Hjulmand admits his love for Arsenal began with his father and his idol is Patrick Vieira, who captain the club's Invincibles to the Premier League title in 2004.

He previously told Portuguese outlet Record : "My dad supported Arsenal and we watched games together when we were younger." Despite those allegiances, the 24-year-old is firmly on Ange Postecoglou's radar as he looks to move on the likes of Oliver Skipp and Pierre Emile Hojbjerg.

Tottenham have sent scouts to watch Hjulmand in action as they attended the first leg of the Portuguese Cup against Benfica on Thursday, which Sporting won 2-1. The Dane joined Sporting from Serie A side Lecce for £15.4m last summer and is already a fixture under manager Ruben Amorim.

The Portuguese outfit have shown themselves to be shrewd operators in the market and will sell for the right fee. Last summer they allowed Manuel Ugarte to head off to PSG, banking €60million (£51m) from the deal.

If Hjulmand does move to Tottenham, he won't be the first man with Arsenal ties to play for the club. The greatest goalscorer in their history, Harry Kane, was snapped in an Arsenal kit as a child with pictures of him wearing red previously going viral.

There have also been numerous players to play for both, crossing the north London divide. Sol Campbell incited huge anger when he opted to go from Tottenham to Arsenal, where he won numerous honours. William Gallas and Emmanuel Adebayor both went from red to white.

Tottenham had enjoyed a period as north London's premier side, owing to their rise under Mauricio Pochettino. Mikel Arteta though has helped Arsenal re-establish themselves as No.1 with the Gunners back challenging for a the title. The Gunners and Tottenham drew the only derby of the season so far.
