Check out Amazon's top five selling books of 2024
World Book Day is less than a week away and with it comes the urge to dust off those reading glasses and pick up a book. There are lots of ways to read, whether it's a trip to the local library, listening to an audiobook or even off a screen.
Shopping giant Amazon makes it easier to see what is popular at the minute with their top 20 list of the most read and most sold books that week. You'll often find that the most read are available on Kindle Unlimited where the most sold are a little more varied.
Here at the Mirror we've taken a look at the top selling books so far this year and curated a list of the ones we think should be on your radar.

One Day by David Nicholls
One Day by David NichollsIf you've got Netflix, or any form of social media for that matter, you're probably aware of the smash hit show One Day. The show, which stars Ambika Mod as Emma Morley and Leo Woodall as Dexter Mayhew, has brought the best seller back to the attention of the masses.
It follows Emma and Dexter and their lives on one day for twenty years. Starting out on the day they met and following them both through the highs and lows of their careers, ambitions and personal relationships. A look at the cover may lead you to believe this is just a love story but have tissues to hand as it's a bit of a tear jerker.
I'd say this is a great option for fans of Love, Rosie (previously published as Where Rainbows End) by Cecelia Ahern, You and Me on Vacation by Emily Henry or Normal People by Sally Rooney. You can get One Day from £5.49 on Amazon or £9.99 from Waterstones.
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J MaasA Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) was first published in 2015 and was at the time considered to be a Young Adult novel, dubbed by readers as a fae version of Beauty and the Beast. Almost ten years later it's still topping charts although thanks to the 'smutty' nature of the series, it's safe to say most wouldn't consider it young adult anymore.
Maas has always been a popular fantasy author but with the growth of booktok and bookstagram she's become a must read. A Court of Thorns and Roses follows Feyre Archeron after she is brought into the faerie lands of Prythian. The series may be known for its steamy sex scenes but it also deals with complex themes of abuse, mental illness and moving on from an abusive relationship.
It's definitely worth looking up the trigger warnings before diving into this one but it is an excellent read and popular for good reason. I'd recommend this to fans of Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros or Rhapsodic by Laura Thalassa. It's currently retailing from £4.53 on Amazon.
Check & Mate by Ali Hazelwood
Check & Mate by Ali HazelwoodAli Hazelwood rose to fame seemingly overnight in the book community with her debut The Love Hypothesis, it's with Olive and Adam's love story that she built up a huge fanbase for her women in STEM rom-coms. Recently Hazelwood has ventured out from what she's known for and written a Young Adult novel, Check & Mate, and a paranormal romance, Bride.
While both contain plot choices that make it clear this came from none other than Ali Hazelwood it's Check & Mate that crept it's way into Amazon's charts. Mallory Greenleaf has retired from chess, yes even as a teenager, and insists nothing could make her go back. Until she faces off with Nolan Sawyer: current world champion and reigning Bad Boy of chess.
This is a fun novel that dives into the enjoyment of more 'nerdy' interests, complicated familial dynamics and the realities of starting out adulthood - with a dash of insane prize money and handsome millionaires. If you like Lynn Painter, Elena Armas or Christina Lauren then this is a great option. It's available from £5 on Amazon.
Fool Me Once by Harlan Coben
Fool Me Once by Harlan Coben It's clear that getting a Netflix show adaptation of a book propels it into the public eye (Shadow and Bone watch this space) and Fool Me Once is no exception. The book was nominated for Best Mystery & Thriller in the Goodreads Choice Awards 2016 when it first came out and people are invested as ever as to what truly happened.
