A Place in the Sun presenter Scarlette Douglas has opened up to her fans about her fertility journey - explaining that she has been freezing her eggs.

The 36-year-old television presenter - who hosted Channel 4’s A Place in the Sun from 2015 until 2022 and has also reported on Points of View, The One Show and Good Morning Britain in the past - has candidly discussed the fact she has travelled to the Caribbean island of Barbados to visit a fertility clinic. Taking to social media, Scarlette said she found the experience eye-opening while also explaining why she felt she had to take action.

Scarlette hinted the fact that she is heading into her late 30s acted as a contributing factor into her choice to take action to improve her chances of conceiving a family later in life. She also explained that she had been criticised from some fans and followers for wanting to freeze her eggs - but defiantly defended the choice - and said she wished she had more information about how eggs can degrade with age long before her journey began.

Scarlette shared a video on Instagram alongside an eloquent written statements. She wrote: "I learnt so much about my eggs and the process of vitrification at the @barbadosivf. I really wish this was something taught to me when I was younger or at least spoken about in more depth. Yes my aunty and friends had encouraged me to do it in my younger years, but I didn’t for one second think it would be something I would need to consider, let alone think about back then, but who knew 37 would come around so quickly?! I really should have taken action when they first said it all those years ago.

Explaining the decision to fly to Barbados for treatment, Scarlette said to the camera: “I chose this clinic initially because of the sound advice that I got from a good friend of mine. It is a popular clinic. It has some of the world’s most experienced doctors and nurses. A brilliant success rate and it’s in Barbados.

“You know I like the sunshine. I’m thinking Caribbean heat, yes please. I’m there!” She went on to explain that she had to fill out a lot of paperwork to be accepted by the clinic and had to undergo blood tests in order to receive treatment. She praised the medical staff that she met with saying they were “brilliant” and that they put her at ease.

Fans were grateful to Scarlette for her honesty and openness about her experiences. One gushed in the comments section: "This is absolutely amazing. Especially as it is an area that is shied away from. Unfortunately, women have so much pressure put upon them... If you have children too young it's an issue but your window of opportunity ie biological clock starts ticking against you. Well done fir spreading Awareness and taking the bold step of coming out publicly."
