Kylie Minogue delighted Brit Awards viewers as she did a 'shoey' with Roman Kemp on Saturday night, but some are questioning the legitimacy of the singer's slurp from her stiletto.

The Padam Padam hitmaker, 55, shocked those inside London's O2 Arena as she agreed to participate in the Aussie ritual of drinking alcohol out of a shoe with host Roman, after the outgoing Capital Breakfast presenter told her it would be "amiss" not to sip some of her signature rose wine from her high heels.

"Kylie doing a shoey was everything tbh," one viewer declared on Twitter (X) as Kylie supped from her shoe, with another adding: "kylie doing a shoey on the Brits is... very good." However, those watching in Kylie's native Australia weren't as impressed with the fun-loving star.

The stars of The Sunday Project questioned if any alcohol was even present inside Kylie's shoe as they discussed the light-hearted segment on TV. "I don't want to go full conspiracy theory, but do you reckon there was beer in there?" Michael Hing asked on Sunday.

"I think it was fake," Sarah Harris quickly guessed, with Rachel Corbett adding: "Not a drop! Did you see when he pulled them up. There was nothing. There was no liquid in those shoes." Sarah went on to muse: "She has a size five foot. It's very small feet, small shoe. It will be like a tiny gulp. Why not submit to the shoey. She's an Australian." Referring to Kylie's character on Aussie soap Neighbours, Sarah then joked: "Charlene would have done it."

Elsewhere at the 2024 Brit Awards, pop queen Kylie closed the night with an epic performance of her biggest tunes after she was awarded the global icon prize. Clara Amfo, one of the show's three hosts, poked fun at Kylie Jenner as she announced superstar singer Kylie's performance.

Before calling Kylie up to perform, Clara, alongside Maya Jama and Roman Kemp, gave a final message to those tuning in from their homes. Clara playfully joked: "What a woman, the only Kylie that truly matters." Clara's quip was seemingly a jab at Keeping Up with the Kardashians star Kylie, following Aussie Kylie's successful 2017 court battle with reality TV star Kylie over the name Kylie being trademarked.

Kylie scooped the Global Icon award on Saturday night, saying ahead of the awards: "I am beyond thrilled to be honoured with the global icon award and to be joining a roll call of such incredible artists. The UK has always been a home from home so the Brits have a very special place in my heart. I have some amazing memories from the awards over the years and I can't wait to be back on the Brits stage."

The star-studded list of previous winners include big names like Sir Elton John, David Bowie and Robbie Williams. And last year, Taylor Swift was the first female artist to receive the highly-coveted award. And Kylie, who has sold over 80 million records worldwide, is the latest star to be honoured with the gong.
