Greg James swapped a star-studded bash for babysitting on Saturday night, as the Radio 1 DJ gave away his tickets to the 2024 Brit Awards to a couple from Wales.

Not only did the broadcaster, 38, give fans Charlie and Meg, avid listeners of the Radio 1 Breakfast Show, his tickets to the awards ceremony at The O2 Arena in London, kind-hearted Greg even travelled Swansea to watch their seven-year-old daughter as the couple mingled with celebrities at the event.

At the start of this week, Greg enlisted the help of Radio 1 listeners as he revealed his wife Bella Mackie, 40, didn't fancy attending the Brit Awards with him at the weekend - meaning Greg was in the market for a plus one. Many names were touted as possible dates for Greg, with comedian Joe Lycett suggested by fans, but in the end, Greg decided to give both tickets away.

Live on Radio 1, Greg surprised listeners Charlie and Meg with this amazing "life swap" idea when he called them live on his show on St David's Day. He told them: "You might have heard this week that Bella, my wife, didn't want to go the Brits this weekend. So I've been trying to decide all week who I would want to take with me and I keep coming back to both of you in my head because I love you both I think you're brilliant. You've brought so much joy to this show the listeners absolutely love you."

Greg has previously described the couple as a "real life Gavin and Stacey" as Charlie is from Essex originally and Meg is from the Swansea area. "I thought maybe it would be quite fun if we swapped lives for the evening," Greg told the pair during the reveal on Friday. "I could go fill in for you there," added Greg, happily offering to look after their seven year old daughter Maisie while they attend the fancy awards in London. "What is actually happening? " stammered Charlie, shocked by the surprise.

True to his word, Greg travelled down to Swansea on Saturday, keeping his Instagram followers updated on his road trip as he explained how he planned to spend the day with Maisie before they tuned into the Brit Awards on ITV that evening. "If you want the alternative coverage make sure you check back later today," he jokingly told his followers on Saturday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Meg updated her own Instagram with a video of Charlie driving them to London. She excitedly gushed: "We're so excited and I actually don't know who's more excited Maisie or us. She cannot wait for Greg to come to Swansea. This whole thing is mental and we're just so grateful. This is like a proper once-in-a-lifetime experience. This just doesn't happen to normal people like us and it's all down to Greg because he's just such a legend. Thanks Greg!"

Posting to his Instagram grid that night, Greg shared a collection of snaps from his day out with Maisie as they settled down to watch the Brits on telly. "Charlie and Meg are Brits ready. And so are me and Maisie! She’s definitely enjoying my phone," Greg wrote as he captioned pictures of himself and Maisie playing on a park and painting each other's nails.

"Greg this is so wholesome! The radio stuff is awesome but stuff like this is the reason that you are elite," one fan of the DJ wrote underneath Greg's post. "Greg, you are an absolute beacon of light, please never change! The best nonsense ever," another added, as a third gushed: "This is the best thing ever. Like. I don’t care what happens at this Brits. This should be a Pixar film of some sort. Amazing scenes."
