Raye had the O2 arena in tears as she ended her epic 2024 BRIT Award night on an absolute high as she scooped the Album of the Year Award - and broke down in tears when picking it up.

The 26-year-old star had a smash hit night as she scooped six of the seven BRIT awards that she was nominated for - grabbing Songwriter of the Year, Best New Artist, Best R&B Act, British Artist of the Year, and Song of the Year as well as the coveted Album of the Year award. She took to the stage to accept the album award from Stuart Worden - the principal of the BRIT School where she studied and after which the prestigious awards are named after.

Raye was not alone when she accepted her final award of the night as she had her grandmother, Agatha, at her side. And both were shedding tears as Raye launched into a passionate and emotional acceptance speech.

Initially, Raye was unable to say a word as she battled tears and let out wails of happiness after winning her sextet of awards. Finally composing herself and lifting her award in the air, Raye gasped: “You just don’t understand what this means to me.”

She continued her speech thanking those around her. She said: “I want to thank Mike Sabath, executive producer. I love you, my best friend. I want to thank my grandma for her prayers. My grandma was awake until 3am praying for me and my beautiful sisters. I love you so much.

“My middle name is Agatha and this is Agatha Dawson, ladies and gentlemen. I want to thank all the writers and musicians that were part of.. is this happening?”

Breaking down into tears again, Raye struggled to complete her speech. Battling on, she continued: “I’m so sorry, I want to thank all the writers who are a part of this. I want to thank… I am ugly crying on national television. I am so proud of this album. I am in love with music. All I wanted to be was an artist. And now I’m an artist with an album of the year! Thank you so much to the Brits. This is too much. It really is!”

Show host Maya Jama admitted she was almost in tears herself watching Raye win so many awards. She told her co-hosts Roman Kemp and Clara Amfo: "Raye - this was really her night. Please watch this back again, and again, and again. Because it is iconic." Roman agreed, asking Maya: "How many times have you cried tonight?" And Maya admitted: "Honestly, before when they went on camera I had all the tears and I said "Raye, listen. I know you're my mate, but I can't cry on camera. It's not my moment. It's yours!'"

The entire awards show was broadcast on ITV and via ITVX and is available to catch up or rewatch via the streaming service.
