BRIT Awards viewers make same observation about hosts as they fume over ceremony
The BRIT Awards 2024 viewers were all commenting the same thing about the hosts of the live ITV coverage on Saturday, amid another complaint about the ceremony.
The coverage was hosted by Clara Amfo, Maya Jama and Roman Kemp at London's 02 Arena on Saturday night, and viewers had the same question about the hosting line-up. There was also a repeated complaint from viewers about the length of the televised ceremony, and how many advert breaks filled up the show.
The hosting trio presented from 8:30pm onwards, but fans didn't understand why there were three hosts instead of the usual one, if not two. Many fans commented that they thought it was "over the top" to have so many presenters, while some fans were divided on the hosts in general as the ceremony went on.
Not everyone was keen on the ceremony itself, calling it "awkward", as others fumed that it had gone on for far too long. Taking to X on the initial complaint about the hosts, one fan said: "Did they really need 3 hosts?"
Another agreed: "3 hosts for the Brits is a bit OTT no?" as a third said: "Idk why there needed to be 3 presenters this year. It seems too many." Others called the choice of hosts "random" and commented there was a "lack of chemistry".
Corrie's Sue Cleaver says I'm A Celebrity stint helped her to push boundariesIn terms of the length of the show itself, some fumed over how long it was all taking with one writing: "ANOTHER ad break?? pack this in." A second added: "Far too many ad breaks !!!!" as a third agreed: "Ugh, not another ad break already!"
A fourth fan posted: "And another ad break," while a fifth said: "MORE ADVERTS?!?!?!?!? HOW DO WE COPE." Ahead of the show, the hosting trio all shared their excitement to be teaming up to present the awards.
Clara said: “Hosting The BRITs is a bucket list job, I’m so very honoured and excited for this year’s show. Throughout my career, I’ve been so lucky to witness the growth of this year’s nominees and performers and I know it’s gonna be another special one. I can’t wait to hit the stage with Maya and Roman to celebrate these amazing artists at The O2!”
Maya added: “I'm really excited to be hosting The BRIT Awards alongside Clara and Roman. I’ve worked alongside the incredible team at the BRITs for years now and it’s something I always watched, and wanted to be a part of, growing up - so it’s amazing to be on the stage this year hosting it! It’s always one of the best nights of the year for me, and a real celebration of British music, culture, and talent.”
Roman shared: “This is a real pinch me moment! Hosting the BRIT Awards - what an honour. I remember watching the BRITs on TV when I was growing up so to be asked to host this year’s awards, is a dream come true. It’s going to be a privilege to share the stage with so many talented artists and to celebrate the incredible achievements of all the nominees and winners this year. See you there.”
The BRIT Awards was hit with controversy last year when no female artists made the final shortlist for Artist of the Year – which was subsequently won by Harry Styles. The British Phonograph Industry, who organise the annual event, have stated that gender balance has been readdressed following last year's outrage.
Speaking last month, BPI Chair Yolanda Brown, said: "We shared our upset that no women or R&B artists were represented last year. We consulted with our advisory group, we thought long and hard about moving forward."
