Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp appeared baffled by the criticism going the way of referee Paul Tierney after the Merseyside club's dramatic late win at Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Heading into the closing stages at the City Ground, Klopp's side looked as though they were set to drop valuable points in the title race. In the ninth minute of stopppage time, though, Darwin Nunez headed into the bottom corner of Matz Sels' net to send the visitors wild.

While Liverpool were delighted, Forest were anything but. They had the ball when play was stopped following an injury fo visiting defender Ibrahima Konate, but play was restarted with an uncontested drop ball and Liverpool had just enough time to get dowfield and win.

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis was reported to have confronted Tierney following the final whistle, with his team's defeat leaving them in relegation trouble. Klopp, however, appeared at a loss following the reaction.

"Jurgen Klopp stormed past me saying he doesn't know why he's getting so much flak," said BBC Radio 5 Live reporter Rob Schofield, who was reporting from the tunnel at the City Ground. "It really was all kicking off down here. Furious scenes."

Tierney brandished a number of cards after the final whistle as Forest's players and staff reacted to the late drama. Coach Steven Reid was sent off, with a booking going the way of substitute Felipe.

The result saw Liverpool move four points clear at the top of the Premier League table, but it also had repercussions at the other end. Forest remain 17th - four points above 18th-place Luton, who have a game in hand, but who lost to Aston Villa on Saturday evening.

Forest have found themselves on the wrong end of a number of decisions this term, and have brought in former Premier League ref Mark Clattenburg as an officials advisor. Clattenburg, who has been in his new role since February, spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live after the game.

"As a club Nottingham Forest have felt one or two decisions that have gone against the club; Newcastle United, West Ham [results]," Clattenburg began. "Clear decisions where the Premier League and PGMOL have accepted that it is a mistake, today is another example where the law is quite clear.

"The law states that if the referee is going to stop the game, which he is entitled to do for an head injury, if there is a head injury. However, the ball has to go back to the team which has the possession and Nottingham Forest had the possession."
