Are you unsure what the difference is between the Meta Quest 2 vs Oculus Quest 2? Don't worry. we've got you covered.

Understanding the difference between the Meta Quest 2 and Oculus Quest 2 can be somewhat confusing. Both VR headsets are identical in terms of hardware, but have different branding. There's a simple reason for this, Oculus was acquired by Facebook in 2014 for $2billion, but after the social media company rebranded to Meta in 2021, the headset was rebranded too.

If you're unsure about which one to pick up, or you're just interested in the differences between the two, here's everything you need to know.

Meta Quest 2 vs Oculus Quest 2: Hardware

The hardware in the Meta Quest 2 and Oculus Quest 2 is identical, as the systems are the same, but have different branding. This means that games and titles run identically on either system and the availability of titles on both VR headsets are also identical. When searching for the specifications on the official Meta and Oculus store pages, you'll find the below information.

Meta Quest 2 Specs

  • Panel refresh rate: 120Hz

  • Cameras: 4 external infrared cameras
  • Compatibility: Standalone, can be connected to PC via Meta Link cable or wirelessly through third-party apps
  • Audio: Input: In-built microphone Output: Speakers

Oculus Quest 2 Specs

  • Processor: Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1 (7nm)

As you can see from the hardware specifications, everything from the processor down to the speakers is identical, as is their performance. However, one thing you may want to keep in mind is that a Meta Quest 2 headset has a high likelihood of being manufactured much later on than any Oculus Quest 2 headset. And, as is the case with any device, newer hardware is likely to perform better.

Meta Quest 2 vs Oculus Quest 2: Branding

The branding on both headsets is the only difference between the two. You'll first notice this on the box of the headsets themselves, where the Meta Quest 2 has the Meta infinity-style logo on the side of the box, whereas the Oculus Quest 2 has the Oculus oval-style logo on the side of the box, paired with the word 'Oculus' in big font on the side.

On the headsets themselves, the front of the visor has a small indented logo, corresponding with which brand the product falls under. But the branding within the headset and virtual environment itself has been entirely updated to be Meta-branded, no matter which headset you decide to pick up.
