Luke Littler is happy to be compared to Liverpool 's young guns by Jurgen Klopp.

The teenager has taken the darts world by storm, mixing it with the sport's biggest names and claiming honours early in his career following a breakout performances at the World Championships at Alexandra Palace. At Anfield Klopp is also looking to the next generation.

He backed youth in last weekend's Carabao Cup final as the Reds saw off Chelsea at Wembley. Liverpoool finished the game with the likes of Jayden Danns, Bobby Clark and James McConnell on the pitch as Virgil van Dijk headed an extra-time winner.

Littler said: "I actually watched the final and the young lads are doing well, but if he wants to compare them to me then he can. I actually woke up and someone told me that he compared me to his young lads, so I went online and watched the video.

"I gave it a like and went on to the next video. That was literally another day in my life."

Klopp, who will depart come the summer, has continued to show what Liverpool's next generation look like. Days after their Carabao Cup success they saw off Southampton 3-0 in the FA Cup with Danns grabbing a brace and Lewis Koumas also getting in on the act.

The Reds boss was quizzed on whether he had to protect his young players: "I don't feel that, I know that. You [the media] are all not ready to do it so somebody has to ask for it. Nobody is Luke Littler. What could disturb a career for a young prospect, [media attention] is always one part of it.

"It was wonderful, they deserve it, the spotlight was on them that night [against Southampton]. You don't live on the planet if you don't see how special the story was but, besides that, the next challenge is now how to deal with all the things coming up.

"These boys are fantastic in that department as well. Really down to earth and grounded, all that is absolutely fine."

Littler, like Liverpool's youngsters, has been able to keep his feet on the ground despite the huge plaudits coming his way. The teenager has already seen off Michael van Gerwen to win the Bahrain Masters and has continued to produce magic in the Premier League and the UK Open, further underlining his talent.
