It would be easy to confuse the Nicky Clarke Airstyle Pro as another copy of the Dyson Airwrap, but there are certain elements that the new hair tool does better.

Celebrity hair stylist Nicky Clarke launched the pistol-like hair dryer and styler at the end of January, packing its professional salon-grade technology into a lightweight 350g handheld gadget.

The Airtstyle Pro has four styling attachments – a concentrator nozzle for precision styling, a hair diffuser to add volume and reduce frizz and two "aircurl" stylers for making waves and curls.

It is listed under hair dryers on the website and given its premium price at £249.99, I would say the Airstyle Pro is top of the line for the brand.

And it turns out I'm right – the package comes in a champagne gold box and inside it read: "Say HELLO to Air Care."

To test the Airstyle Pro, I followed my haircare routine and sprayed a bit of Wella Professionals Ultimate Repair Protective Leave-In Lotion on my chemically bleached hair.

For a disclaimer, I also own a Dyson Airwrap and my first impression using the Nicky Clarke one is the weight of the Airstyle Pro. It contains less metal parts hence the lighter weight – this is helpful to people like me who has long, thick hair that takes a little longer to dry and style.

Combining advanced infrared and ionic technology, the Airstyle Pro dried my hair without frizz.

But I encountered an issue when using it for the first time – the nozzle came off when I was drying my hair and it was hot to touch when I tried to put it back on.

Unlike the Dyson Airwrap, there is no 'release' button to switch the attachment so it can be tricky and dangerous to twist and remove the hot nozzle before I swap to other tools.

Using the aircurls was pretty easy and within 10 minutes, I got my wavy look done and with a bit of Arkive hair oil, my hair looked shiny and nourished.

The curls stayed for a whole day which I was massively impressed by. But for £249.99, I wish they could at least provide a bag or travel pouch for storage.

Another issue of the Airstyle Pro is the delayed switch response. It took an extra few seconds to turn off the device after I pulled the 'on' tab to 'off'.

There are other products on the market that offer similar functions, just like Shark FlexStyle 5-in-1 hair styler and dryer but the price tag is close to £300.
