Meghan Markle and the Queen had "genuine affection" for each other, it has been claimed, which comes after it was reported that the Duchess knew how to "butter up" the late monarch.
The former actress and blogger married into the British Royal Family in 2018 when she and Prince Harry got hitched in Windsor. The couple then resided in England until 2020, when they announced they would be stepping back from their royal duties and moving to the States.
When Meghan initially joined the Royal Family, she spoke out about her bond with the late Queen. "It's incredible, I think, you know, to be able to meet her through [Harry's] lens, not just with this honour and respect for her as the monarch, but the love that he has for her as his grandmother.

"And we've had a really – she's – she's an incredible woman," she candidly said at the time.
Speaking to Newsweek earlier this week, Ms Seward, an esteemed royal author, said: "I was so surprised when I heard the Queen liked Meghan but she did. Meghan's a smart lady whatever people think of her.
"She knew exactly how to butter up the Queen. Even Harry gave us a little glimpse of it by the dogs," she added, with the comment about the dogs referring to how Harry revealed in 2017 that the corgis had a soft spot for Meghan in an instant.

Lynn Carratt from Press Box PR told The Mirror: "Harry has always had a close bond with his grandmother, the Queen, who also held a special place for him. He was young when he lost his mother, Diana, and his grandmother had to step in to fill the void. Throughout his life, he has shown a willingness to comply with her wishes."
She added: "Meghan was welcomed warmly by the Queen when she became a part of the Royal family. Their first meeting took place in 2017 over afternoon tea," before noting how she "was invited by the Royals to spend Christmas at Sandringham, which broke royal precedent".
Lynn then revealed: "I believe Meghan was genuinely fond of the Queen and often spoke in interviews about what a warm women she was.
"The relationship between Megan and the Queen took on a different dynamic after Megxit in 2020, and while the Queen publicly supported the couple, behind closed doors it was said that she was distraught by the events that had taken place. To add to this, the Royal family experienced more stress after the explosive Oprah interview with Meghan and Harry while Prince Philip was in hospital."
Lynn then touched on how despite not attending Prince Philip's funeral, she did attend the Queen's funeral, "and in the Harry & Meghan documentary series, Meghan speaks highly of the Queen and how the family had Zoom calls with her and how she sent a waffle maker as a birthday gift to Archie".
Concluding her analysis, Lynn wrapped up by saying: "I believe there was a genuine affection between the pair, it’s just a shame the Queen had to deal with the drama surrounding Mexgit during her final months on the throne."
