Alan Titchmarsh has thrown open the doors to his own home to allow camera crews - and by extension, his fans - into the sanctuary he shares with his wife and family.

The 74-year-old gardening legend has been married to his wife Alison since 1975 and together they share two children; daughters Polly, 43, and Camilla, 41. Alan and Alison moved into a grade II listed Georgian Hampshire farmhouse over twenty years ago and fans will be able to see inside their home and garden in Alan’s new show.

The TV host has a new ITV show called Alan Titchmarsh's Gardening Club which will air on the network in the early afternoon from Monday. Alan has been promoting his new show - and in doing so has made some rare comments about his blissful life with his wife Alison.

Alan has gushed over her film abilities - explaining that she took control during lockdown to command a camera and record Alan pottering around as he put together a show titled Grow Your Own At Home. He said he is excited to welcome cameras back into his home for his brand new show - which will also film from other locations.

Opening up about his filming, he said: “All my bits will be in my own garden. It feels like the right thing to do. I did it for 27 years at the beginning of my broadcasting career and then when we moved house about 20 years ago, I said right this one’s for us. We did a series called ‘Grow Your Own at Home’ which went down in lockdown, which my wife filmed, and she became quite famous for her film camera work despite never doing as much as taking a snap on her iPhone before. So we've done a little bit from here, but generally, it's not seen very often. It's nice for viewers to have a peek inside my own garden as well.”

Alan has opened up about his marriage to Alison in the past - and made it sound like he was as happy today as he was when they met almost 50 years ago. He said in a past interview: "Romance is about being thoughtful. I have made Alison tea for 45 years – but mind you, she's ironed my shirts every week for 44 years, which is the greater gift […] I'm a lucky man because she's the most unmaterialistic person I know."

Alan has previously shared that his wife and family laugh over the fact he is regarded as a housewife favourite and sex symbol after years of being on the box. He told the Mirror in 2015: “I’m chuffed to bits I had a waxwork that was kissed a lot… But it raised eyebrows from the children and wife. When we heard about it, Alison thought they must have been talking about someone else."

Alan Titchmarsh's Gardening Club airs on ITV and via ITVX from 2pm on Monday 4 March 2024.
