The Duchess of York has been told there appears to be no spread of her skin cancer after another bout of surgery.

In July 2023, the Sarah Ferguson, 64, had an eight-hour mastectomy – but unfortunately last December, during the follow-up surgery, dermatologists had to remove several moles, finding one to be malignant melanoma.

Despite this diagnosis, the mother of Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie said in a post on Instagram she is in “good spirits” and “grateful for the many messages of love and support”.

And now Sarah has undergone further surgery to examine the area around the malignant mole as well as lymph nodes with the good news from doctors they have found no more cancer and it appears not to have spread.

A friend said she has been told these are "free of cancer" with doctors believing there has been no spread, reported the Mail. According to Cancer Research UK, melanoma accounts for 4% of all new cancer cases, which makes it the fifth most common form of cancer in the UK.

Over the past 10 years, diagnosis has increased by 32%, including rates in females increasing by more than 27% and males by almost 38%. Every year, this has led to at least 2,300 melanoma skin cancer deaths in the UK, which is more than six patients each day.

"She's undergone further surgery following the melanoma diagnosis to examine the area around the mole found to be malignant and her lymph nodes,' the friend said about Sarah. "The good news is these have all been found to be free of cancer so it looks like there has been no spread of the disease and the prognosis is good, though she'll have to have regular check-ups going forward. It's a huge relief for Sarah and the entire family after the most stressful time and an anxious wait for results."

The Duchess of York is warning people not to skip cancer health checks as “days could make the difference between life and death”. She thanked her family for their support after the malignant moles were found last December and revealed it had been her sister who’d urged her not to put off a routine mammogram.

She posted on Instagram : "Days could make the difference between life and death, so please don't skip or put off your health checks and urge your loved ones to go to theirs."

The Duke of York's ex-wife found out less than a year after facing breast cancer. It was discovered because her dermatologist had asked for several moles to be removed and analysed at the same time as the duchess was undergoing reconstructive surgery after her mastectomy.

She later found out one of the moles was cancerous. The news was followed several weeks later by a Buckingham Palace announcement which revealed the King also had cancer. The monarch is receiving regular treatment for an undisclosed cancer, which was discovered while he was in hospital for a procedure on an enlarged prostate.
