John had a final message for the remaining players as he was murdered

John Bercow was eliminated on Thursday's episode of the American version of The Traitors.

The former speaker of the House of Commons was murdered overnight after being extremely vocal that one of the contestants, Married to Medicine's Phaedra Parks, was a traitor. He was completely right and was murdered for it, which some think was a bad strategic decision for Phaedra.

When John received the letter that he was being sent home, the 61-year-old politician was as calm as could be. He told some of the other contestants earlier that night that he was probably going to be sent home.

John was unsurprised when he was eliminated

"I'm not surprised in the slightest by my macabre fate," he told the camera, "I was onto Phaedra and she wasn't going to allow me to hang around any longer."

The 61-year-old politician then left the mansion, but his absence did make some faithful in the house be weary of Phaedra. After it was revealed John was gone, MJ - who was originally on Phaedra's side - realized that she might be a traitor after all.

Even Phaedra's close friend of 30 years, Sheree Whitfield from The Real Housewives of Atlanta, wasn't so sure she could trust her in this game, as the winning jackpot totaled more than $158,000 (about £125,000).

Phaedra was eventually sent home

People on social media agreed that Phaedra made the wrong decision. "Killing John after he was so vocal at the roundtable was a mistake bc it basically confirms what he said. Honestly the smarter move would have been to take out someone from the other side the past two murders," one person wrote on Twitter.

They also mourned the loss of the British politician. "John was so good at this," someone wrote online. Another added: "Not grandpa John :("

But Phaedra's luck ran out, as at the next round table meeting - everyone voted for Phaedra to be banished. She announced she was a traitor, and that she was happy about how she played the game.

With Phaedra gone, only one traitor remains in the house of six - Kate Chastain from Below Deck. She competed in the last season of The US Traitors and didn't win, but she might take home the prize pot this time.
