Eric Dier's loan move to Bayern Munich is set to become permanent after the 30-year-old met the required contractual obligations.

Dier joined Bayern last month on an initial loan deal, with the Bundesliga giants paying a reported €4m (£3.4m) loan fee. The move also saw Dier reunited with his former Tottenham teammate Harry Kane, who joined Bayern from Spurs over the summer in a deal worth £100m.

The defender has played six games for Bayern, the most recent of which was a 2-1 win over RB Leipzig on Saturday, and the Athletic are now reporting that the option to make the move permanent has now been triggered.

The report adds that Bayern will essentially register Dier as a free agent next summer after his contract with Tottenham expires. The club are said to be 'pleased' with his impact, despite Bayern slipping eight points behind Bayer Leverkusen in the title race.

After joining the club, Dier said: "This move is a dream come true for me. Because as a child you want to play for a club like Bayern one day. Bayern is one of the biggest clubs in the world and has an incredible history.

"I want to help the team with my versatility in defence. I'm really looking forward to my new teammates and the fans at the Allianz Arena, which in my eyes is one of the best stadiums in the world."

And Bayern legend Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has been impressed by the England international. " Eric Dier surprised me a little, to be honest," Rummenigge told Allgemeine Zeitung (via Sport Witness ) earlier this month.

"He hasn't had much match practice at Tottenham this season, but he's performed well in all the games he's played for us so far and is an absolute alternative in defence. He's physically powerful, strong with his head, tactically clever and has a great passing game going forward. And the fact that he's a good mate of Harry Kane doesn't hurt either."

Bayern will be back in action tomorrow evening when they face Freiburg, before they take on Lazio in the second leg of their Champions League last 16 clash on Tuesday. Thomas Tuchel's side lost the first leg 1-0 thanks to a Ciro Immobile penalty and are looking to avoid being knocked out in the last 16 for the first time since 2019
