Dwayne Johnson defends actress who refused to work with 'idiot' co-star

Dwayne Johnson offered his support to actress Rebecca Ferguson for saying she would refuse to work with an "absolute idiot" co-star - and made it clear she was not referring to him.

While promoting "Dune: Part Two", the 40-year-old Swedish actress reflected on a past experience on set when a colleague made disparaging remarks towards her. Talking to Josh Smith on his "Reign" podcast, she said: "I did a film with an absolute idiot of a co-star.

"This human being was being so insecure and angry because [they] couldn't get the scenes out. And I think I was so vulnerable and uncomfortable that I got screamed at and I would cry walking off set."

Now, 51-year-old actor and wrestler Johnson, known as The Rock, said he was happy to see Rebecca "stand up to bulls***".

He wrote on X, formerly called Twitter: "Hate seeing this but love seeing her stand up to bulls***. Rebecca was my guardian angel sent from heaven on set. I love that woman." The former WWE star added: "I'd like to find out who did this." The pair worked together on the 2014 film "Hercules".

The actress did not reveal the name of the A-list star she was talking about, and was careful not to give anything away. On the podcast, she continued: "This person would literally look at me in front of the whole crew and say, ‘You call yourself an actor? This is what I have to work with?… What is this?’ And I stood there just breaking.

"And I remember the next day I walked on and I said, 'You get off my set.' That's the first time I [had] ever spoken — I remember being so scared. And I looked at this person and I said, 'You can F off. I’m gonna work toward a tennis ball. I never want to see you again.'"

She also said she went to the director of the film demanding to know why her co-star's behaviour was allowed to continue. She added: "The director said, ‘You’re right. I am not taking care of everyone else. I’m trying to fluff this person. Because it’s so unstable. It was great from that moment, but it took so long for me to get to that. It’s within my last 10 or 12 years and I’ve acted since I was 16."

Rebecca clarified that she was not talking about Tom Cruise or Hugh Jackman, who she starred alongside in The Greatest Showman and Mission Impossible respectively, but fans were quick to speculate on the identity of the star in question.
