Jake Paul boasts of being "the new Floyd Mayweather" ahead of ring return

Jake Paul has hailed himself the new Floyd Mayweather of boxing after being called out by a handful of big names.

The YouTuber-turned-boxer competes in his 10th professional fight on Saturday when he faces 35-year-old Ryan Bourland in Puerto Rico. Paul has opted to ditch fights against big-named opponents to pursue a traditional route towards his end goal of becoming a world champion.

Whilst responding to a call-out from NFL star Tyreek Hill and criticism from British boxing legend Carl Froch, the social media sensation told Boxing Social: “All of these guys will fight me, I’m the new Floyd Mayweather in the sport. Seriously, because I make my own decisions and I know how to get the business contracts done and I do the biggest pay-per-views.

"I’m my own boss, so I can move and go wherever I want. I am the new Floyd in this sport and everybody wants to fight me." Paul suffered his first boxing defeat at the start of last year at the hands of Love Island star Tommy Fury, but returned to winning ways by beating UFC legend Nate Diaz and unknown boxer Andre August.

Paul has a history with Mayweather as they got into a scuffle before his brother Logan's exhibition fight against the boxing legend three years ago. Mayweather also confronted Paul outside after a basketball game in Miami last March, but the social media star later admitted the encounter was fake.

Paul has been pushing for a fight against undisputed super-middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez for years, but the Mexican superstar has insisted it won't happen until he hangs up his gloves. “I want a lot of fights but I think number one on the list will be Canelo. I think it will happen at some point," Paul added.

"I’ve been talking about that for a couple of years now. Canelo has brought it up so it makes sense. He is coming to the end of his career and he’s going to want to make a lot of money. Canelo, once again, I want to fight you brother. Let’s make it happen, you can run but you can’t hide.”
