A shopper was filmed being battered with a hammer in a shop in a vicious attack that has left him with "serious injuries".

The man, in his 20s, wearing a grey hoodie and joggers plus a black baseball cap, was seen chatting to a worker at the till in the store before he was suddenly hit three times in a six-second horror attack. A CCTV camera caught the moment the attacker, clad in light trousers and a black jacket, ran into the shop and hit him over the head with the tool. It took place at My Daily Shop in Stratford Raid, in the Sparkhill area of Birmingham.

As the victim fell to the floor, the aggressor then hit him two more times with the hammer before the two men fall out of view. Then the next images show the attacker getting up first and he sprints out of the shop.

After leaving, the shop worker then dashes out of the store to see where he went, while the victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Police are hunting the hammer attacker following the incident that took place just before 2pm on February 21.

A man in his 20s was taken to hospital with serious injuries. We are asking anyone to come forward with information which may help our enquiries. We are especially keen to speak to anyone who was on Stratford Road, between Springfield Road and Shaftmoor Lane around the time of the attack. Or who was driving through the area and has dash cam footage.”

Meanwhile a local commented: “Sad to see so many youngsters harming each other over something stupid and petty." Another, named Milo, added: “Flabbergasted I tell you.”
