A Married At First Sight participant was told their groom had quit the show

Married At First Sight Australia viewers were left shocked as a groom decided to quit the show before even meeting his match.

During Wednesday night's episode of the hit E4 dating show Michael, 34, was paid a visit at home by expert John Aiken. It followed on from the hen night, where Michael surprised the show's brides by joining them on their night out.

John went to Michael's house and sat him down to deliver some shocking news. He said: "It is highly unusual for me to come and visit a participant, but I have got some real disappointing and shocking news. After the bucks and hens night, your match -Simon - decided to send us an email saying he no longer wanted to be a part of the experiment."

Michael broke down as he admitted: "That is definitely a hard blow. I feel like somebody has ripped my heart right out of my chest. I want to be understanding of his side but I would just love to know why." John told him: "I don't want you to take this personally, this happened because your match couldn't cope with the experiment, the unknown and the pressure that was going to go on them.

"It is absolutely devastating. We, the experts, have not lost hope and we are now looking closely at new matches for you because we want to find you the fairytale. There are no guarantees, I can't tell you whether or not we will find that special person. But what I can confirm is that Mel, Alessandra and myself are totally committed right now to try. Hold on, don't give up hope - we certainly haven't."

After processing the news, Michael said: "My match puling out means he just wasn't the one. As bad as it feels maybe I have dodged a bullet. John has given me a little bit of help, the experts are still looking to find me a better match."

Viewers took to X - formerly Twitter - to share their thoughts as one said: "Sad for Michael but it’s not that deep. Neither knew each other. It’s disappointing but to say you’ve had your heart ripped out is out. He’s seems a lovely guy, he’ll find someone." Another added: "So gutted for Michael as Simon seemed so lovely but so positive he’ll find the perfect person."

Someone else commented: "Pretty shocking his match done a runner. You should have known the pressure and scrutiny that was going to be on you beforehand so that's no excuse." A fourth wrote: "That was a waste of an application. Michael needs to come back on another series." A viewer added: "Gutted for Michael but maybe they’ll find someone even better for him."
