Woman outraged after boss lists her job online after making role redundant

A woman who said she got laid off by her employer and then discovered her job had been advertised with a different title and for much less than she was on has vented her fury. The woman said she was told that her losing her job was based on performance but that the unnamed company had simply got rid of her role.

But when she went on the firm's website "out of curiosity" she saw her job advertised under a new name, but with all the same responsibilities she had when she worked there. The new job was also being offered for £43,000, a whopping £36K less than she had been paid for the role.

In a video with almost 6,000 views, TikTok user Vic (@vicsvlog) described how she stumbled on the shocking discovery. She said: "Hey, besties. So you know I got laid off, right? And I saw my job. Same job description, new title." She explained to fellow users that the pay was also drastically reduced. The TikToker reportedly made £79,000 ($100K) annually in the role. However, she said the newly listed salary was £43K ($55K).

The influencer, who has more than 8K followers, added: "So, it makes sense. They just want someone to do all the work and not get paid for it." And to add insult to injury, the woman said she was told her firing was not "performance-based" but the result of the company getting rid of her role. She continued: "I see what you did there, girl. Good for you. You’re saving £36K ($45K) a year."

And her followers were quick to advise her what her next steps should be, while also lamenting that this was becoming a growing problem amongst employers. In the US, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is responsible for enforcing federal laws that make it illegal to discriminate against workers, and one commenter said: "They can’t repost for a lower salary for a year after your term date. EEOC!!" while another said: "Tag me when u hear back from the EEOC I’m here for the drammaaaaa," and another said: "File an equal employment opportunity claim!! It’s def illegal."

Other commenters shared similar experiences with past employers, with one saying: "Yeah this is happening all over, they are rehiring the same roles but paying people way less money, saves them money obviously," and another said: "Yup. They gave my role to another manager that’s now doing double the job for the same pay. Luckily I found a new role three weeks later." A third person addded: "When I was getting laid off recently the CEO was telling me they underpaid me and i could make so much money somewhere else. Sir that is a fantasy."
