Adele has left fans fuming over her latest show cancellations with many paying out thousands to see the singer - and it's not the first time she's left fans out of pocket.

The Someone Like You star, 35, left ticket-holders heartbroken when she announced she had to postpone the entirety of her Las Vegas gigs in March after being put on vocal rest because an illness 'took a toll' on her voice. Adele explained she had initially fallen ill at the end of her run of shows last year - all based at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace - in early November but was unable to continue even after her break.

Taking to Instagram this week, she apologised for the "inconvenience" explaining she had not got "the chance to get back to full health before the shows resumed" on 19 January, explaining: "I was sick at the end of the last leg and all the way through my break. I hadn't quite gotten the chance to get back to full health before shows resumed and now I'm sick again, and unfortunately it's taken a toll on my voice. And so on Doctors orders I have no choice but to rest thoroughly."

Fans were understandably devastated by the news with many of them paying big money for the sought-after tickets. So, as the Take It Easy On Me star gets some much-needed rest and recuperation, here's a look back at Adele's history of ill health - and cancelling gigs - over the years.

Throat surgery

Adele went under the knife in 2011 for 'vocal cord microsurgery' to remove a benign polyp that forced her to cancel a series of gigs. The then 23-year-old underwent the operation according to a statement from the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, USA. "Based on the advice of her doctor and voice therapist in the United Kingdom, Adele came to Boston to consult and undergo corrective voice surgery," it said.

The surgery is designed to remove a benign polyp, preventing recurrent vocal cord bleeding. It came less than a month after the singer called off her remaining 2011 appearances.

Taking to Instagram, with an update on her situation, Adele said at the time: "If I continue to pick up everything before I have properly conquered these problems and nipped them in the bud, I will be totally and utterly f****d," she explained on her blog last month. "Singing is literally my life, it's my hobby, my love, my freedom and now my job."

Cancels final two shows of tour in 2017: ‘I’m devastated’

The Tottenham-born star left her home fans heartbroken as she canceled the final two shows of her tour back in 2017.

Adele was due to play home-coming gigs in the capital after her huge European tour but after extending the sold out run she pulled out of the original dates at the 11th hour.

She announced in an emotional Facebook post, revealing she had damaged her vocal cords again.

“On medical advice I simply am unable to perform over the weekend,” she wrote. “To say I’m heart broken would be a complete understatement.” The singer had inserted copies of a handwritten note into the tour program for the first two nights of her Wembley show.

In the letter posted on Adele’s official social media channels, the singer wrote that she was “so desperate” to finish out the run that she’d “even considered miming".

Adele promised fans that they would be given first priority on her next tour, but unlucky ticket-holders are still waiting.

Cancels Vegas residency in 2022 - with 24 hours notice

Adele said the decision to cancel her Las Vegas residency in 2022 was the “worst moment in my career” as she vowed to “nail” the rescheduled shows later that year.

Speaking seven months after the dates were cancelled, the stratospheric songwriter explained why she pulled out of the long-awaited gig - just 24 hours before she was due on stage.

“There was just no soul in it,” she said in an interview with Elle magazine. “The stage setup wasn’t right. It was very disconnected from me and my band, and it lacked intimacy. And maybe I tried too hard to give it those things in such a controlled environment. It was the worst moment in my career by far. I was so excited about those shows. It was devastating.”

While admitting she was embarrassed about the cancellation, Adele insisted she was also proud to have stood by her artistic needs. “The first couple of months were really, really hard," she admitted. "But it actually made my self-confidence grow, because it was a very brave thing to do. And I don’t think many people would have done what I did.”

Health condition that left her unable to walk

During a performance on New Year's Eve in 2022, the mum-of-one revealed she had been diagnosed with a health condition that affects her ability to walk.

The singer was reportedly handing out T-shirts at her sold-out show when she spoke to fans about her chronic back pain. As reported by The Daily Star, she said: "I’ve got two more, I’ve just got to get over to the other side of the stage. I have to waddle these days as I have really bad sciatica."

Sciatica is described by NHS as 'where the sciatic nerve, which runs from your lower back to your feet, is irritated or compressed.' In the past, Adele has revealed she struggles with the condition, telling The Face: "I’ve been in pain with my back for, like, half of my life, really. It flares up, normally due to stress or from a stupid bit of posture.”
