Joanna Page has finally addressed the future of Gavin and Stacey following rumours of a Christmas special.

The actress, who is best known for playing Stacey in the hit sitcom, has been swept up in reports she is set to reprise her role. It comes after show stars and creators James Corden and Ruth Jones have reportedly been secretly working on a brand new episode.

Filming is said to begin this summer with stars including Joanna, Matthew Horne, Alison Steadman, Larry Lamb, Rob Brydon and Julia Davis hoping to reprise their roles. The show last appeared on air for the 2019 Christmas special, which became the most-watched show in a decade after garnering more than 18 million viewers.

Reacting to the news, Joanna exclusively told The Mirror: “It’s all gone absolutely mad with those rumours and it’s so sweet and lovely that everybody still loves the show. But cross my heart, I honestly don’t know. I’d never ask Ruth [Jones] or James [Corden] if they’re planning on writing any more. That would look a bit sad, wouldn’t it? But would I do the show again?

"I’d absolutely jump at it. It was a fantastic job with a fabulous cast. We had a right laugh from start to finish. My children recently watched the first Christmas special which they loved." EastEnders star Natalie Cassidy and Joanna's friend admitted to us: "I asked Joanna about it and she wouldn’t tell me, but I really hope the rumours are true."

Appearing on BBC's The One Show, Joanna denied any knowledge of a rumoured reunion. She told hosts Jermaine Jenas and Alex Jones: "I don't know anything at all. I've got no other information. Absolutely nothing. Don't know anything at all, Sorry, I've got no exciting information." She also went on to address being known to millions as Stacey.

"When you go to drama school you just want to act, you just want to work,” she said. “And then to come out and then do a job and be known for something that the public have liked and everything, it’s just, it’s really lovely. So yeah I’m really pleased with it.”

Following the news, other Gavin and Stacey stars have spoken out about the future of the show. Rob Brydon, who played Uncle Bryn in the hit series, said that a potential comeback is a question that fans always want to know the answer to.

He said to BBC Radio 4: "I get asked about this on every interview I ever do and I sound like a politician, as far as I'm aware it's another rumour. I don't know. I mean, I'd love it if it were true." Ruth Jones, who starred as Nessa and co-wrote the show, hit back at the reports.

She told RTE Radio 1 that these stories are "sadly a rumour". The Nessa actress said she believes the whispers started after she was spotted having lunch with James Corden, who also created the show after he came back to the UK from America.

The sitcom followed the lives of Gavin and Stacey, played by Mathew Horne and Joanna Page who played a young couple caught in a long-distance relationship between Essex and Wales. It ran for three series from 2007 to 2010 and came back in 2019 for a Christmas special that continued where the last episode left off. Smithy, played by James Corden, and Nessa, played by Ruth Jones, had a rocky relationship during the show, with the last special ending with a surprise proposal from Nessa.
