BBC Radio 1's Matt Edmondson and Mollie King are leaving their current slot.

The former singer and broadcaster have been presenting on the network since 2018 but as part of a shake-up at the organisation, they are moving to replace Vicky Hawkesworth and Dean McCullough in a brand new slot, airing between 1 and 3pm, Monday to Thursday.

A source said that the news will be announced in the coming days but the pair were "thrilled" when bosses at the station shared the news with them. Mollie and Matt's departure from their slot comes just days after the corporation announced that fan-favourite Jordan North would be leaving his position at the station.

"Mollie and Matt have been massively popular in their afternoon slot from Friday to Sunday and now they’re being moved to Monday to Thursday," a source said. They went on to tell The Sun: "It's huge for them after grafting over the weekend for so long and they were thrilled when they were told.

"Dean and Vicky are staying at the station and will be moved onto a new slot too. It's a really exciting time at Radio 1 with new talent coming through, especially with Jamie Laing taking over Drive Time from Jordan North." It was announced earlier this month that former reality star Jamie would be replacing Jordan – leaving fans completely enraged.

It has since been announced that Jordan, 34, would be moving to a rival station, fronting the Capital Breakfast Show with Chris Stark and Sian Welby on the Global network. His former co-presenter Vick Hope revealed that Jordan wasn't given a proper send-off, with sources later telling the Mirror that he had been left "blindsided" by the corporation's decision to announce his exit.

A source said there were tensions running high for a few months surrounding Jordan’s departure after he let producers know he wanted to go. The source said: "Conversations were going back and forth between Jordan’s people and the top people at the BBC for months, and over time they deteriorated. Once he formally requested to leave, that was it – he was off air, immediately. It's a shame it ended on such a bad note after 10 years," they added.

Taking to Instagram to discuss his exit, Jordan said: "Hello everyone. I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank all my wonderful colleagues / talented producers at Radio 1 who many I consider to be friends for life and will miss greatly, you've all reached out to me over the past 24 hours and it really has meant a lot.

"To my amazing fellow presenters I wish I could thank you all personally, I’ve loved working with you it's been an absolute blast! MOST IMPORTANTLY the biggest of thank yous to the fantastic listeners who have been really generous and always made me feel welcome, your kind words & messages have been so lovely, THANK YOU SO MUCH.
