Former Haas F1 boss Guenther Steiner will join Australian television channel Network 10 for next month’s Australian Grand Prix.

Steiner possesses more than 15 years of experience in F1 with roles at Jaguar and Red Bull before taking the reigns for Haas’ venture onto the grid from 2014 until the end of 2023. Thanks to the acclaimed ‘Drive to Survive’ docuseries on Netflix, Steiner surged in popularity as one of F1’s most charismatic figures.

The 58-year-old was replaced as team principal at Haas at the end of last season, with Gene Haas turning to trackside engineering director Ayao Komatsu instead. But Steiner won’t be far from the action as he will make his return to F1 this weekend as part of Germany's RTL broadcast for the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix.

Steiner will then join Network 10 in a one-off cameo as the Australian Grand Prix is the only F1 event of the year set to be broadcast on free-to-air television Down Under. On the eve of the race, Steiner will appear in a Q&A in front of approximately 2000 people to discuss the event before featuring as part of Network 10’s broadcast team during the Melbourne race - and he is excited for the new challenge.

“Formula 1 is competition at the highest level, on the racetrack and in the paddock,” Steiner said. “How are the drivers’ performances to be assessed and what does that mean for the organisations behind them?

“I’m looking forward to examining these processes with this strong on-air team and sharing my analysis of the racing action.”

After making his debut as a pundit in Bahrain, Steiner will travel to Australia where he will spend over a week. He will first appear at the Adelaide Motorsport Festival before getting to grips with anticipation for the Australian Grand Prix.

His appearance for RTL will mark his first appearance in the paddock since leaving Haas in what is a change of pace for the emotional former team boss. RTL programme director Inga Leschek added: “With Guenther Steiner, we have managed to get a long-time manager and Formula 1 insider directly from the paddock in front of the RTL microphones, who will enrich our live broadcasts with current insights and plain text.

“In addition, Steiner is a real character who is extremely popular among many Formula 1 fans.”

Steiner’s RTL commitment is weighted towards the second half of the season, with Bahrain followed by Hungary, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Azerbaijan and Las Vegas. Steiner has some experience as part of a broadcasting team, as he joined FOX Sport at COTA last year for a NASCAR race.
