Divers used in the search for Nicola Bulley have begun their efforts to trace a two-year-old boy who disappeared in a river in Leicester nine days ago.

Xielo Maruziva fell into the River Soar while out with his family on Sunday, February 18, sparking a huge search and rescue operation. Little Xielo's dad had jumped into the river in a desperate attempt to save the youngster, but to no avail. He was hospitalised for his efforts but discharged days later.

Since then, Leicestershire Police have brought in specialists from other police forces in a huge scale search to find Xielo. On Monday, it was announced that Specialist Group International (SGI), who helped cops trace missing mum Nicola Bulley over a year ago, were now joining the search after further talks with the family.

Mum-of-two Nicola disappeared while walking her dog along the River Wyre in Lancashire in January last year, with police tragically discovering her body further downstream three weeks later. The search was followed by thousands, attracting huge amounts of interest by TikTok ghouls forcing her family to issue a statement urging them to stop.

An inquest in June last year ruled Nicola had died an accidental death. Meanwhile a spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said on Monday that it had taken the decision to involve SGI following “further conversations” with Xielo’s family.

Known as ‘the human mole’, Peter has been instrumental in uncovering vital evidence in multiple high-profile cases over the years."

Leicestershire Police has also said that the boundary of the search area was widened over the weekend to now include the stretch of the River Soar around Watermead Park and Birstall. Bad weather has caused problems with the search in recent days, but the outlook appears clearer at the beginning of this week.

Michaela Kerr, the force's assistant chief constable, said they remained committed to finding the missing boy, whose fall into the River Soar has been described by police as a “tragic set of circumstances”.
