A woman has been left gobsmacked after reportedly being hit with a complaint letter for painting her front door pink.

The colour you choose for your entranceway door makes a bold statement about your personality and style before visitors even step in.

One proud homeowner wanted to brighten up her front door, and decided to transform it with baby pink paint, a multicoloured flower arch, and a pretty wreath - making her home stand out.

Posting on her TikTok account @bubblebearsboutique, the woman revealed her bold interior move was not received well by some of her neighbours who allegedly branded her door as "offensive".

The boutique owner claims she received a letter from Lancashire Council informing her that an inspection will take place.

The letter appears to state: "Dear residents, this letter is being sent to inform you of a routine inspection of your property after a complaint has been issued regarding your front door, we have been made aware it is offensive to residents.

The letter added that an inspection will take place in early March. It continued: "You do not need to be present for the inspection. Thank you for your cooperation on this matter."

The property owner added: "Apparently my front door is offensive." But hundreds of people rushed to comment on how much they love her decorating choice.

"I think it's offensive that there's not a lot of pink doors," one individual said. "Well your neighbours might think it's offensive but I think it's lovely," added another. Another wrote: "It reminds me of Bridgerton with the pink and the flowers."

A third commented: "You probably have the prettiest door and someone is jealous." "I think it looks bright and cheerful," wrote one other. Another TikTok user said: "I want to know how anybody can find a door offensive? Let alone a lovely one."

Do you need permission to paint your front door?

According to experts at Everest Windows, you do not need planning permission to paint you front door. However, if you live in a listed building or in a designated area you may have to check with your local; there could be a restriction on the colour or style of door that you are allowed.

Planning and environment lawyer Alison Ogley told The Guardian: "If you want to paint your house a particular colour, then you have particular development rights to do so, but local authorities can remove those rights. Everybody has to check for themselves that there isn't what's called an article 4 direction in place in their area. If there is, the rights to paint your house any colour you want has been taken away."

Experts at Door Supplies Online revealed white doors may have been all the rage decades ago but now many are choosing to make a statement with a bold-coloured door. They told the Express: "Of course, there is sometimes no choice in this if you are choosing a PVC front door but if you are painting the door fresh or choosing one, there are so many more options to choose from minimising yourself to just white. These doors can also get dirty quickly and can wear quickly making them look quite dull and dingy."
