Andy Reid could become the highest-paid NFL head coach ever after winning three Super Bowls with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Earlier this month, the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 to win Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas. Patrick Mahomes was the star, throwing for 333 yards and two touchdowns. He was named Super Bowl MVP for the third time in his glittering career.

Even though he thought about retiring before the championship game, Reid, 65, is ready to come back for a 26th NFL season. He's expected to start talking with the Chiefs soon about a new contract. This deal could make Reid the best-paid coach in football.

Brett Veach, the Chiefs general manager, is also getting ready to sign a new deal. This will replace the last two years on the contracts they both signed after the 2019 season - when Kansas City won Super Bowl LIV and started their winning streak.

Since then, the Chiefs have won two more titles. They've gone back-to-back for the first time since the New England Patriots did it in 2003-04.

Because of the Chiefs' success, Reid is going to get a big payday. He's thought to be about eighth among head coaches in average yearly value on his contract. He's third in the AFC West after the big hires in the last two years of Sean Payton (Denver Broncos) and Jim Harbaugh (Los Angeles Chargers).

Payton is currently the top earner among NFL coaches, pocketing $18million (£14.2m) - more than Harbaugh's $16m (£12.6m) and Reid's $12m (£9.5m). Payton bagged this deal after the Broncos snapped him up from the New Orleans Saints after the 2022 season.

Not only did Denver give up a first-round pick in 2023 and a second-rounder in 2024, they also signed Payton to a contract that will see him earn between $85m (£67m) and $100m (£78.8m) over five years. It's thought that Reid could soon overtake Payton - and might even beat Bill Belichick's $20m (£15.8m) yearly salary with the Patriots before he left in January.

Since their Super Bowl LVIII win, the Chiefs have given defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo a new three-year contract - making him one of the highest-paid in his role - and extended the contract of special teams coordinator Dave Toub. It's expected that Reid and Veach could get new deals by next month's Annual League Meeting, which takes place from March 24-27.

Reid has now joined an elite group of coaches - including Chuck Noll, Joe Gibbs, Bill Walsh, and Belichick - who have won three or more Super Bowl rings. He is also fourth in all-time coaching victories and second in post-season wins, only behind Belichick.

Now, Reid and the Chiefs are aiming for a third consecutive Super Bowl title, something no team has ever achieved. If he is rewarded properly, the Chiefs' success might just continue.
