GMB star rushed to hospital as Susanna Reid issues on-air message

Good Morning Britain hosts Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley sent their best wishes to a colleague after he had to undergo emergency surgery this weekend.

The pair spoke out on the show after their co-star was rushed to hospital, after an infection led to him needing urgent treatment. Chief correspondent Richard Gaisford shared an image of him in a hospital bed, as he addressed his sudden health scare this weekend.

He posted about his ordeal and praised the NHS staff who had helped him, after his dash on Sunday. Speaking on Monday, Susanna and Richard discussed his news on air before sending him well wishes.

Susanna told him and viewers she was sending Richard "our very best wishes" and hoped he'd have a "swift recovery", as co-host Richard added: "Get well soon mate." Susanna also echoed Richard's praise for the NHS staff who helped him, as he had done in his original post on Sunday evening.

"NHS at its very best. I realise there are untold pressures at the moment, but the service I received was first class and hugely appreciated." He finishes by writing "NHS" with a heart emoji.

His X followers including some of his GMB co-stars soon rushed to reply to him, sending their love and support. Laura Tobin responded: "Take care x," while Marverine Cole said: "Flip! Hope you're AOK now??"

Another comment posted under his news read: "Oh Gosh Richard!! I really hope you are ok and on the mend soon!" A further tweet said: "Best wishes, Richard. Hope it’s a speedy recovery." Understandably, Richard was not on the show on Monday morning and it is not known when he will be back with the ITV series.

Susanna had explained Richard was unwell with an infection that wasn't clearing up, leading to him heading to the hospital. It's while he was there that he learned he needed to undergo emergency surgery, with him now on the mend.

She said: "He had to be in hospital over the weekend. He'd had an infection, and antibiotics didn't deal with it. So he popped in to see if it was alright. Suddenly he was undergoing emergency surgery."
