Fed up with your feature-packed smartphone taking over your life? The team behind all of the latest Nokia devices might have the answer. HMD Global has already relaunched a number of simplistic feature phones - including the iconic 3310 - that take users back to a time when phones just made calls, sent texts and offered a quick game of Snake. Now it’s announced a new device is coming soon that could make the call maker in your pocket feel a lot more fun.

Having joined forces with toy firm Mattel, HMD Global says it will release a Barbie Flip Phone this summer.

“The Barbie Flip Phone will arrive this summer 2024. Promising style, nostalgia and a much-needed digital detox, this retro feature phone will flip the script on smartphone culture and will be this summer’s hottest accessory," HMD Global confirmed.

Sadly, there are no pictures to show what this colourful device will look like. All HMD has released so far is a pixelated image which only shows that the Barbie phone will, of course, be pink.

It also appears that this will be a feature phone so there won’t be any giant screens or endless apps to distract you. It’s also unclear if it will include the Nokia name or simply be a device from HMD Global itself.

Hopefully, more news will be released in the coming months including a full set of features, the all-important price tag and a release date.

Speaking about the launch, Ruth Henriquez, Head of Consumer Products, Publishing, and LBE, Mattel EMEA, said: “At the heart of Mattel is design and innovation, and this latest collaboration is another step forward in that direction. The Barbie x HMD launch promises to be an exciting moment for Barbie fans of all ages, we're excited to flip the switch and unveil it to the world at Mobile World Congress."

This latest news was announced at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. There will be plenty more phones announced over the next few days and Mirror Online has taken the trip to Spain to bring you all the biggest releases as they happen so watch this space for full details.
