Most tech users know the importance of giving things a quick reboot from time to time with devices such as laptops, routers and phones all benefiting from being switched off and back on again. However, with Fire TV Sticks plugged into the back of TVs and fully out of sight it can be easy to forget about these much-used streaming dongles.

Just like other gadgets, Fire TV Sticks can suffer over time if they don't get restarted now and again and luckily there's a very simple way of performing a reset without any hassle.

As the team at Firestickhacks.com explains, all owners need to do is grab their Fire remote control then press and hold the main circular "Select" button along with “Play/Pause” at the same time. Keep them pressed for 10 seconds and the Fire TV Stick will begin a quick reboot.

Once restarted, any bugs, app crashes or glitches that have been slowing things down should be resolved.

That remote trick is one of the quickest ways to reset things but you can also dig into the settings menu as well to turn your dongle on and off again. If you prefer the manual option simply go to Settings , then tap on the My Fire TV icon and scroll down to Restart.

Once again, this will reboot the Stick and clear up any problems.

If none of that helps you can also pull the plug on the whole device, wait for 10 seconds and pop the power back on.

Of course, there is always the possibility that your Fire TV Stick is simply past its best and it might be time to switch things up to something new.

If you think that's the case then a good recommendation is the all-new Fire TV 4K Max.

This dongle not only gets a new design but is also faster, has better Wi-Fi 6E and includes the exclusive Ambient Experience.

This feature, which isn't available on any other Fire TV Sticks, offers stacks of free artwork which makes your telly appear like a constantly changing work of art. You can also add useful floating widgets over the top for easy access to things such as weather, sticky notes, smart home gadgets and what's on live TV.

It costs £69.99 although there are always deals available which can lower that cost.
