Sister slams sentence for woman who killed off gran with illegal bum injection
The sister of a woman who was killed after being given an illegal bum injection has slammed the court system after the unlicensed practitioner was sentenced.
On Thursday, 49-year-old Whalesca Castillo was jailed for four years in Bronx County after Lesbia Ayala, 48, died in 2017 when silicone was injected into her backside and thighs. Castillo didn't have any sort of medical licence and was later arrested. She reached a deal with prosecutors in December to plead guilty to one count of second-degree manslaughter and one count of assault.
Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said in a statement “The defendant illegally injected the victim with a silicone substance for cosmetic purposes. Tragically, the injections killed the victim. The defendant also performed a (separate) dangerous cosmetic procedure that left another woman with substantial pain."

Whalesca Castillo, 49, received a four year sentence after admitting manslaughter (NY 1 News)A second procedure, which led to the assault charge, happened in 2018 when Castillo illegally injected a separate 39-year-old woman with silicone. It was done in an attempt to "enhance" th victim's buttocks but left her with infections and pain in her behind and thighs. As a result, the victim had to have "most of the tissue in the affected area removed," according to the DA.

Speaking in court about the incidents, Castillo said: "Ever since this happened, I have been regretting it so much. So ashamed for myself and for my family because that was not the way they raised me.”

She slammed the sentencing as "too lenient," adding: “Four years is not enough. This is not the first time she did what she did. This was her third time. The last time resulted in my sister’s death. There’s no way that four years is justice.”
A third incident which was referred to by Vanessa Ayala was about a 2011 federal conviction Castillo had which included one count of distributing or injecting an adulterated or misbranded product. She admitted to illegally providing silicone injections as part of an “underground business she ran out of her home” where she often charged more than $1,000 for each round of shots, prosecutors explained.

At least one of the women who received the injections later experienced shortness of breath and fainted just hours later.
Prosectuors revealed when she tried to call Castillo for help, she “discouraged the woman from seeking proper medical attention, saying that a hospital would not help her because the procedure was illegal.” In the federal case, Castillo served one year in prison and was fined $100,000.
