A university student has died after being found unresponsive in his dorm room this morning.

The Campbellsville University student was taken to Taylor Regional Hospital where medical professionals pronounced his death. The cause of death has not been determined yet, the university in Kentucky said, and local law enforcement are looking for "a person of interest".

The university said there is no continued threat to students following the incident, but everyone has been asked to take extra precautions while on campus - including securing their residences and vehicles. The university said in a statement it would release further updates once more information becomes available.

Campbellsville University President, Dr. Joseph Hopkins, said: “Campbellsville University is grieving the loss of one of our family. We have lost a student and our hearts are broken.

"During this devastating time, the continued safety of our students and the residents of our community are our primary concern. With consultation from local law enforcement, we will continue to implement every measure necessary to protect and support students and our community."

The student counseling centre on campus is open and counsellors are available to students seeking emotional support during this tragedy, Campbellsville University said. The Ransdell Chapel will be open for students and staff for prayer and support of one another.

The tragedy comes after the teenage son of a former YouTube CEO was found dead in his university dormitory room last week. Marco Troper, 19, was found unresponsive in a Clark Kerr campus dorm at the University of California, Berkeley, at around 4.23pm on February 13, school officials said. Emergency services were called to the scene and tried to resuscitate him, but the teen could not be saved.

The cause of death is not currently known but officers found no signs of foul play at the scene, campus police said. However, Marco's grandmother Esther Wojcicki said she believes her grandson ingested a drug that killed him.

She told the SFGate: "He ingested a drug, and we don't know what was in it. One thing we do know, it was a drug." Ms Wojcicki added: "We want to prevent this from happening to any other family." She said: "Tragedy is very hard to sustain, it makes you want to hide in a closet and never come out, but I think the main thing is that we need to push forward to see what we can do to help other people so there won’t be any other kids who end up like Marco."

Yesterday we reported that a nursing student was found dead with "visible injuries" by a lake on the University of Georgia campus - and police suspect foul play, questioning a "person of interest" on Friday afternoon. The Athens-Clarke County coroner says the body found at the University of Georgia campus belonged to Laken Hope Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student who attended Augusta University College of Nursing.

Her body was found on Thursday afternoon by authorities, as students were already mourning another loss of life - a student named Wyatt Banks had just been discovered dead days ago of an apparent suicide. Athens, Georgia, is home to two schools, and the body of the victim of last week's bloody attack ended up at a campus that she was no longer enrolled in.

Coroner Sonny Wilson said the manner of death was pending an autopsy scheduled to begin on Friday. However, the police chief noted in their report that "the individual was unconscious and not breathing and had visible injuries" when she was found.
