BBC Saturday Kitchen's Matt Tebbutt apologises as he suffers guest blunder

BBC Saturday Kitchen's Matt Tebbutt suffered an awkward guest blunder as he was forced to apologise on-air.

Matt said sorry during the latest episode of the programme after he got the name of a guest's charity event incorrect. Chef Donal Skehan joined on the programme but it was him that was apologised to.

When Matt asked Donal about a charity event that he's taking part in, he made a small mistake, saying: "So tell us about the fundraiser you're doing for the Great British Bake." However, Donal quickly interrupted and replied: "It's not the Great British Bake, it's the Great Irish Bake!" Noticing the mistake, Matt quickly apologised by saying "sorry, sorry".

Donal added: "Yes, we are raising funds for the children's hospital in Ireland, it's a charity I do every year and it's an absolutely brilliant one. I'm a home baker, I only bake at home but I love baking."

Viewers didn't seem to pay that much attention to the mishap but later pointed out that Donal was being loud with one asking him to "pipe down". Fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to talk about the situation. One person wrote: "I think we're all glad that Donal was first on. Now sit at the table and be quiet."

As a second said: "Good God my ears are bleeding after that. Pipe down Donal!" Another added: "Did you know that Donal used to live in L.A.? We do now, as he won't stop banging on about it."

"Why did they put that Donal on a Saturday morning programme. He’s totally unsuitable for people waking up with a slight après Friday night mal de tete," a fourth commented.

Donal is often seen cooking up a storm on ITV's This Morning. He has defended the show in the past despite it having a drama-filled few months.

He told the Irish Mirror: "The amazing thing is as a regular contributor sometimes you go in and you don’t know who the host is until the night before you’ve been told. And the beautiful thing is we get on with all of them.

"Like even with Holly I was really sad to see Holly go because we would have had plenty of conversations about child’s sleep schedules and all those things.

"And when you are on with them regularly you do get to know each other and from that perspective all the stuff you see in the papers it does tend to be talk because any experience I’ve had is that they are all lovely people."

Now living in Ireland after living in Los Angeles, Donal says it's much easier travelling to London now. He said: "He joked: "It makes a much easier commute than Los Angeles and I love doing it. I can get on a flight and go to London and come back all in the same 24 hours so it is a much easier gig and I ended up on the plane home last Friday night with Craig Doyle.

"So you end up seeing people doing the same thing and in lots of ways the ability to be able do that has really changed since moving home."
