This fried egg hack will revolutionise your fry up.

Cooking the perfect fried egg isn't as easy as it looks. You can sometimes end up with a rubbery white, the yolk can be overcooked, and you can even accidentally burn the bottom of the egg if it sits in the pan for too long. But if fried eggs are your Everest in the kitchen, then worry not - because celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has the perfect trick to take your fried eggs to the next level.

Gordon shared his hack in a video on TikTok, and it starts off as you would expect, by cracking the eggs into a pan and beginning to heat them up slowly. But then, the chef adds his unusual secret ingredient - butter.

He said in his video: "Start with a little bit of olive oil [in the pan] and lightly crack the eggs on a flat surface. [Add] a touch of salt and a touch of pepper, bring up the heat and let it cook nice and slowly."

Gordon then added some small chunks of butter to his pan alongside his eggs, which began to "froth up" as they melted into the eggs. Explaining his secret weapon, he added: "Get that little bit of butter at the side and see it frothing up, getting that nice yolk beautifully cooked. As the butter starts to froth, it cooks the top of the egg. Really nice way of finishing it."

Then all that's left to do is serve up the eggs as normal. Commenters on the post were floored by how simple Gordon's trick was, as they couldn't believe he'd ended up with such a delicious-looking result. One person wrote: "I would LOVE to eat anything he cooks ... It all looks so good."

Another person said: "If Gordon cooked for me for one day I would probably never eat again because everything would probably taste gross after the gorgeous meals he makes," and a third posted: "Absolutely beautiful."

Other commenters were less than convinced, however, as they were adamant Gordon had done the wrong thing by not flipping his eggs over to make sure the yolk was fully cooked. Several claimed the eggs still looked "raw", while others suggested their own ways of achieving perfectly cooked eggs.

Someone said: "Sorry, this is not the best fried egg. Take a cold pan. Add eggs and butter, season and you're done! Try it," while another claimed: "Top isn't cooked, it's still clear and raw!! Tbsp water and cover with lid … THAT will cook the top and the yolks will be perfect too. You're welcome."
