Only Fools and Horses star Nicholas Lyndhurst has signed to star in another series of popular US sitcom, Frasier, after he proved to be a hit with viewers for his turn during the previous series.

The legendary 62-year-old actor, who famously played Rodney Trotter alongside Sir David Jason's Del Trotter, has reportedly landed a big-money deal to reprise his role as sarcastic Dr Alan Cornwall, starring alongside Kelsey Grammer, who plays title character Frasier Crane.

The sitcom will be filmed in front of a studio audience in Los Angeles and show insider has claimed: "Nicholas has signed on the dotted line to film another series. It’s a coup for the show because he’s so popular. Viewers love him." Speaking about the sitcom, 69-year-old Kelsey revealed: "Frasier is a love story and I am happy we will be allowed to continue it. I can’t wait for the fans to see what we have in store."

The new series will stream on Paramount+ after another series was commissioned following its return last year, to much acclaim. Jeff Grossman, executive VP programming at Paramount+ said in a statement that he is among those excited to see more Frasier. He said: "Kelsey made a triumphant return as one of the most iconic and beloved characters on television. The new series introduced Fraiser to a whole new generation while reminding fans of Kelsey’s truly timeless portrayal of Dr. Crane. We’re so excited to see what the creative team and superb cast serve up for season two."

Speaking to The Times, Sir David said: "Winter evenings have us hunkering down in front of the fire and watching television. I haven’t seen the reboot of Frasier yet with Nick Lyndhurst, my old co-star from Only Fools and Horses, but I’m sure he will have done a great job."

Sir David went on to speak about the legacy of Only Fools and Horses and his privilege at being one of the star members of the cast on show that was watched by millions at its peak and has led to him being labelled a "national treasure". Speaking about being involved with the comedy, Sir David said: "Being part of Only Fools and Horses is a privilege. I know how much it has meant to so many people. I hope I never take the title “national treasure” too seriously — I call myself the 'leg end', but it’s humbling that people see me that way."
