Love Island has aired the first twist of the new series - as bombshell Tom entered the villa.

The ITV2 show returned for its winter edition tonight, with fans already eager to meet the new contestants. The first lot of hopefuls - Tanya Manhenga, Lana Jenkins, Anna-May Robey, Tanyel Revan, Olivia Hawkins, Kai Fagan, Ron Hall, Will Young, Shaq Muhammad and Haris Namani - have all entered the villa but in a huge twist, a new bombshell walked into the South African abode.

Maya Jama announced that Tom Clare, a 23-year-old semi-pro footballer from Barnsley, was chosen to enter the villa as a bombshell. The public had been asked to choose between Tom and Ellie Spence, 23, a Business Development Executive at a law firm.

In tonight's show, Tom made his arrival just as the five couples had formed, leaving some very shocked faces from the other Islanders. Tom is single - but he will now get a chance to choose which Islander he wants to couple up with in 24 hours, leaving someone else vulnerable. But who will he want to go for, and who's at risk of being vulnerable already?

In his entry interview, Tom said he was "loyal" and "very protective" as a boyfriend.

"I’m loyal, trustworthy, family-orientated. I don’t like to just sit in, I like to do fun dates. I’m very protective," he explained, "Since my ex-girlfriend, no-one’s really come to me and I’ve thought, 'Wow'.

"Until I have that, I’m not really going to settle for less. Not in a bad way, but the next person I get with, I want to marry."

However, the girls in the villa better not be stuck up - as that's a definite ick for Tom.

Asked what he doesn't like in a girl, he shared: "When someone’s stuck up. They can be a 10/10 but if they’re stuck up… another one for me is bad oral hygiene and a random one is ‘birthday make-up’ - you know when make-up is done professionally for an event and it’s just too much, like blue eyeshadow and stuff? Girls don’t need that."

Tom hinted he wouldn't mind stepping on people's toes in the villa - as he joked he takes the girls off his friends too.

"Friends and family would describe me differently. Obviously my mum thinks I’m the most amazing person in the world. She thinks I’m the best thing ever, bless her. My family know how loyal and genuine I am," he said.

"I’d just do anything for anyone and I always treat someone how they treat me. I judge people on how they are with me. My friends would think I’m a good laugh, a top guy to be around, probably take all the girls off them."
