Masters champion Jon Rahm brutally named former NFL star J.J. Watt as the worst celebrity golfer he has played alongside on the golf course.

Rahm has come across a whole host of A-list amateurs during his time as a professional, with big names featuring at Pro-Am events across both the PGA Tour and DP World Tour as well as LIV Golf. Rahm has played across all three circuits, but highlighted Watt as the one celeb whose golf game is not up to scratch.

The Spanish star told the Eli Manning Show: "God I love him to death, but celebrity status, his golf game is not there. It has got to be J.J. Watt. Yeah, I'm sorry I love the guy to death."

Giving the thinking behind his choice, Rahm added: "I tell him all the time he is too strong! You can't be that strong and that big and play golf." Unsurprisingly the ex-Houston Texans man had something to say about his new label handed to him, replying with a 'what the f***' meme to a clip of Rahm's comments.

He then hoped his golf game could do the talking after playing golf the very same afternoon of the Spaniard's light-hearted criticism, but despite an impressive start, things did not go to plan. Sharing a picture of his scorecard, which included a birdie at the first hole, Watt tweeted: "After 2 holes, I was ready to post the scorecard in response to Jon’s 'worst celebrity golfer' video.

"Then it fell apart for a bit. Then it kinda came back. 2 Birdies 2 Pars 2 Bogeys 2 Doubles 1 Triple Just your standard scorecard." During his time on the PGA Tour, Rahm teamed up with Watt in a Pro-Am at the 2023 Waste Management Phoenix Open. Now however Rahm plays his golf on the LIV setup, having made the switch last December.

Despite losing his playing rights on the PGA Tour, the European Ryder Cup star was handed a record-breaking deal worth a reported £450 million. Rahm's move to the Saudi-backed league dominated the world of golf during the offseason, with the Spaniard becoming LIV's biggest signing yet.

In the weeks leading up to the move it remained to be seen if the rumours surrounding his future were true, which led to Watt weighing in X after seeing the reported figures on offer to his good friend. "If this number (£450 million) was correct," the ex-NFL star tweeted in November.

"I would have driven to Jon’s house myself and used extreme physical force to ensure he signed that deal." Reiterating his point on the Pat McAfee Show days later, Watt added: "I tweeted that I would have been the first one at his front door, physically forcing him to sign it if it were for $600 million. Anyone who says they wouldn’t do that … if you wouldn’t take $600 million. I don’t know about that.”
