Welsh holidaymakers will soon have two extra choices when it comes to sunny destinations.

Ryanair has launched two new routes from Cardiff Airport. The budget airline will be flying from the Welsh hub to Spanish destinations Alicante and Tenerife. The Alicante-bound flights will begin on April 4 and operate three times a week, while the Tenerife route will launch two days later, operating once a week.

The extra routes are a major boon for those in the area seeking easy access to warm winter destinations as Cardiff is the region’s only major domestic and international air hub. Its list of destinations is somewhat limited compared to airports in London and Manchester.

Tenerife flights start at £29.22 and journeys to Alicante are being sold for as low as £27.52. Fares are available to buy now. Around the same time, the budget airline will also be resuming its existing routes from Cardiff Airport to Dublin, Malaga and Faro.

If you would like to get away but prefer staying a little closer to home, then organising a stay around the North Norfolk Railway could well be fun. Also known as the Poppy Line, the train travels from Sheringham to Holt and is hailed as 'East Anglia's premier heritage railway'.

Sheringham, a classic seaside town with pebble beaches, shops and eateries, is one end of the journey. The station has a café and a shop selling keepsakes. Sheringham's Blue Flag beach is perfect for families and offers lovely walks along the promenade, lined with colourful beach huts - some of which you can rent.

At the other end is Holt, a Georgian market town filled with independent shops, tea rooms and art galleries. The station boasts a café, a souvenir shop, a tiny museum and a model railway. In the town itself, pop into the famous Byford's tea room and stroll through the charming rows of cottages.
