A new Helldivers 2 update released today and has increased the maximum player cap, which will hopefully make the wait times less rough for potential new recruits.

Helldivers 2 's monumental success has been amazing to see as someone who is a huge fan of the fabled AA game, but what's been less amazing is how I've been unable to play it without subjecting myself to massive wait times. Arrowhead Game Studios was just as surprised at the game's success as everyone else was it seems, as the team has been scrambling to update Helldivers 2 at a rapid pace to iron out any and all bugs (just like the game, how meta).

There was an update earlier this week aiming to deal with some of the matchmaking issues, however, due to players leaving their consoles on overnight as to not be kicked from the game, login queue issues persisted. This was swiftly followed up with a new update which kicked afk players back to the title screen. However, this unintentionally caused a bug which stopped PS5 players from logging in. While this PS5 error was fixed shortly afterwards, Arrowhead hasn't slowed down, with a brand new patch arriving today.

The Helldivers 2 update today was followed up with patch notes posted to the game's Steam community page, with the most important change being that the server cap was increased, which should lighten the load. While the Steam page didn't give numbers, Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt confirmed on Twitter that the cap had increased from 450,000 to 700,000. While he said that he fully expects the server cap to be reached (a good problem to have!) he said that he and the team "believe that the wait times will be much more bearable". Pilestedt also said that the team is working on some final improvements for the weekend ahead, so there's a chance of another Helldivers 2 update today.

Fixes

  • We have raised the server cap!
  • Fixed issue where some players would get stuck in cinematics for an extended period of time.

Known Issues

These are issues that were either introduced by this patch and are being worked on, or are from a previous version and have not yet been fixed.

  • No text is present for the Requisitions and Social Menu on the Player HUD
  • PS5 players may encounter error code 10003001 on the login screen.
  • Login rate limiting when many are logging in at the same time.
  • Players can become disconnected during play.
  • Rewards and other progress may be delayed or not attributed.
  • Various UI issues may appear when the game interacts with servers.
  • Pick-up of certain objects in-game may cause characters to freeze in place for an extended period of time.
  • Some games would not be joinable by others for a short period of time during heavy load.
  • Other unknown behaviors may occur.
  • Japanese VO is missing from intro cutscene and Ship TV.
  • Armor values for light/medium/heavy armor do not currently function as intended.

Hopefully this Helldivers 2 update today is enough to make the game easier to get into over the weekend, and that the power of democracy and liberty is enough to prevent any more issues arising.
