Fellow Met Police officer friend called rapist David Carrick a 'panty sniffer'
David Carrick was referred to as a “panty sniffer” and someone who “should be reported to Crimestoppers” by a Facebook friend before he was finally snared.
Carrick’s now-deleted account, under the name ‘Dave Cax’, contained a number of exchanges where users made comments about him committing sex offences.
In response to a 2016 update of his profile picture to an image of him wearing a neon zip-up top, one person wrote “sex offender” while another replied “selfie taken outside a local school?”
Another commented under a picture of Carrick: “Have you seen this man? If you have do not approach him, instead call crime stoppers on……”
The same account asked: “Are you at your annual panty sniffers convention again?” when Carrick updated his profile picture in February 2021.

Internal reviews by the Met Police found nothing to suggest others within the force were aware of his off-duty activities.
Carrick’s social media revealed he was a keen weightlifter, often posting selfies while working out.
Responding to one such image a user wrote “I didn’t realise being a sex offender required exercise. And we both know the only time you wear gloves is so you don’t leave prints, so you f****d up again there didn’t you.”
In another post of himself working out at the gym, another Facebook friend replied “you scared all the girls out of the gym?!” Carrick responded, “I work with a load of girls.”
In August 2016, Carrick checked in at the ‘Playboy Club’ near Green Park - to which a different account replied: “Pervert!!!” Carrick’s response was, “disgusting, hahaha”.
The Met declined to comment specifically on the conversations on social media.
Meanwhile neighbours on Carrick’s quiet Stevenage street described him as “a cringey loner” and a “womaniser.”
One said: “He lived on his own [and] he was a bit of a loner to be honest.
“He kept himself to himself, you would never have known, We are all really shocked.”

“I think it was the beard, sideburns and the motorbike.”
