Prince William 'appalled' at Harry's latest offer as brothers at 'daggers drawn'

Prince Harry won't be welcomed by Prince William

Prince Harry's return to royal duties seems to be out of the question, with Prince William believed to be "appalled at the idea".

The Duke of Sussex is reportedly willing to return to the Royal Family on a temporary basis while King Charles receives treatment for his cancer. Harry has said he plans to return to the UK after paying a brief visit to his father earlier this month.

However, the Prince of Wales is believed to have advised his father not to allow Harry's return. Royal author Tom Quinn told The Mirror: "I've spoken to a close friend of Charles who believes that even if the king wanted to accept Harry's offer – which he does not - he is not going to do it because William is appalled at the idea: 'To say that Harry and William are not on speaking terms is to underestimate the difficulty - daggers drawn would be a better description'."

Prince William is not happy with his brother's offer

He continued: "William has advised his father not to allow Harry back – partly because he finds his brother so difficult but mainly because Harry has broken the royal code of silence so often in the past. Royal trouble makers – and that's how Harry is seen by William and to some extent also by Charles – have traditionally been kept at arms’ length by the family."

The royal expert then pointed to Edward VIII as an example. The late Duke of Westminster abdicated after falling in love with American divorcee Wallis Simpson.

Tom told us: "Look at Edward VIII after the abdication. It was made clear to him that he was not welcome in England because he might steal George VI's thunder.

"William, who is quiet and more fixed on his destiny and on adopting the never-explain-never-complain rule of his grandmother, does not want a glamorous, unstable brother around even temporarily – a brother who might at any time fly off the handle and write Spare II."

Harry caused a lot of controversy when he released his debut memoir Spare, which issued a number of attacks at various members of the Royal Family. In the book, Harry opened up about his turbulent relationship with his brother and also hit out at his father King Charles.

However, it's believed the Duke of Sussex is willing to put his Royal Family feud behind him. Tom previously told The Mirror Harry was hoping to suggest a part-time return to the royal fold which would see him spend six months in the US and six months in the UK. It's believed his wife Meghan Markle was "absolutely against" the idea.
