Arsene Wenger has warned Liverpool against using Jurgen Klopp to help find his own successor.

Klopp will depart Anfield at the end of the season after nine years in charge as manager. His bombshell announcement leaves the Reds plenty of time to identify the man they want to replace the legendary German.

It will arguably be the most important decision in the club's modern history, with Klopp having masterminded Liverpool's rise back to the top of the English game. Klopp's work since arriving on Merseyside may tempt Liverpool into using his expertise.

But according to Wenger, who spent more than 20 years as Arsenal manager, that would be a mistake. Instead, he urged Reds chiefs to avoid using Klopp to find their next boss, as the Gunners did when they were searching for his own successor.

“No, no," Wenger told beIN Sports when asked if Klopp's advice should be sought out. "I don't think so unless he becomes officially appointed by Liverpool as an advisor.

"You do your job and you let other people do their jobs. I think organisations work well when that is the case. Everybody does what they are responsible for. At least you know when it doesn't work, who to speak to.”

He then disclosed that this was exactly how Arsenal proceeded with their own search after his departure in 2018. When asked if Gunners chiefs involved him in their conversations, he said: “No.”

Klopp has already insisted he will avoid becoming involved in the search for his successor. The German insisted that Liverpool's owners should be trusted to find the perfect replacement.

“No, why should I? It looks like I do all the work but I don’t, I can’t. That means all what we built in the last eight and half years is an incredibly strong structure behind the scenes so everything goes in the right direction," Klopp said last month.

“That’s the good news. That is one of the reasons why I can leave. My responsibility was so big that my idea was always to put everything in place to help with everything that this club gets stronger and stronger and we did that not to perfection but as good as we could.

“So many people work here with only one idea: to find a perfect solution for Liverpool and I am pretty sure that will happen. And the last thing they need is advice from the old man walking out who tells them ‘By the way, make sure you bring him in’.

"I will definitely not do that. I don’t want to be the passenger who is disturbing that process. They will get a top manager here, there will be good football.”
