Prince William finally 'getting his chance' to fulfil 'royal apprenticeship' while King is ill, says expert
A former royal butler says Prince William "getting his chance" to step into his father's shoes temporarily will be like an apprenticeship.
Grant Harold, speaking on new video series Lord Ping's Royal Treatment, was asked how the Prince of Wales will take to this new-found responsibility with King Charles undergoing cancer treatment.
He said: “I think William will do an amazing job of stepping up for his father. People forget he's now in his forties. People still see him as quite young. But his grandmother was mid twenties, maybe 25 or 26 when she became Queen.
"That's such a young age. So in comparison, William is far more experienced with what he's already done.
"But again, it's still a big task to take on. His father is still obviously King but has to cut back on some of the duties and I think William will do an excellent job, fulfill those duties and in time, depending on how long the treatment takes, his wife the Princess of Wales will be there to support him as well.
“I think William will make himself more accessible in the coming months and years ahead, and it's been a natural progression. While he was studying at St. Andrews, and even initially in his work as a helicopter pilot, from the public point of view, it was very minimal.
"His focus was his career, his education. And so it's only in the last decade that he's undertaken more royal duties. I suppose for him, it's still a learning experience. He's still getting to grips with what's expected of him, but it's good he’s getting this chance to step up where his father is unable to do it.
"Because it’s a good little bit of apprenticeship for him, just to give them a taste of one day what it will be like full time.”
