Thomas Tuchel will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season with the Germans facing the prospect of a trophyless campaign.

The ex-Chelsea boss has not yet marked a year in the role but it has been announced that he will leave his post at the Allianz Arena in a matter of months. Tuchel claimed the Bundesliga title in dramatic fashion last term but Bayern look poised to lose out to Bayer Leverkusen this season.

Three defeats in the space of eight days recently has exposed the cracks in Bavaria and the club's hierarchy has opted for a change come next season. It means Bayern are looking for a third coach in three seasons having sacked Julian Nagelsmann less than a year ago.

The Germans have had some illustrious names over the past decade, including Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti. They must now decide which route they want to pursue with a number of young managers now on the scene and proving to be strong candidates.

We take a look at who Bayern could go for with some major names also set to be without a job.

Xabi Alonso

Leverkusen's boss is the obvious choice, but Bayern will have to battle with Liverpool for the Spaniard, who they want to replace Jurgen Klopp. Alonso only took charge of his first major role midway through last season but has created a hugely impressive outfit, who dismantled Bayern 3-0 recently.

You can clearly see that Alonso has worked under both Guardiola and Ancelotti with his style endearing him to senior figures in the game. League success with Leverkusen may leave him keen on testing himself in another environment with Bayern hoping he'll want to remain in Germany.

Jurgen Klopp

Unlikely, but don't rule anything out. Klopp will soon be an unemployed man but claimed he had no desire to jump straight back into management when he leaves Anfield. He said similar when he left Borussia Dortmund in 2015, but was then in charge at Liverpool just months later.

Klopp's association with Dortmund could make a switch to Bayern difficult, especially as it may harm the legacy he left in the North Rhine region of Germany. Bayern though do have a major pull and Klopp is among the finest coaches the country has ever produced.

Hansi Flick

Bayern have shown themselves willing to revert back to the past with managers. They re-hired a treble winner in Jupp Heynckes back in October 2017 after he'd originally left in 2013. Flick departed the Allianz Arena a year after he'd claimed the treble so he could take the national job.

His spell in charge of Germany was short-lived and he endured the embarrassment of an early World Cup exit which eventually saw him axed. Flick is now a man out of a job but could be welcomed back given the relationships he has with a host of the current squad.

Jose Mourinho

The Special One has claimed league titles in England, Portugal, Italy and Spain. Moving to Germany would present him with the chance to add another new honour to his glittering CV. Mourinho was recently sacked by Roma and remains a divisive figure with some now seeing him as yesterday's man.

Mourinho though would still command huge respect and wouldn't be intimidated by the stature of a club like Bayern - whilst he's often made no secret of his desire to get back in a job. He also helped get the best from Harry Kane when they worked together at Tottenham and has a positive relationship with the forward.

Unai Emery

The Spaniard has performed impressive work at Aston Villa and could yet guide them to the Champions League. That has furthered his stock after he also claimed Europa League success with Villarreal in recent years. It was with the Spanish side that Emery also stunned Bayern, knocking them out of the Champions League quarter-finals in 2022.

Villa, whilst they have lofty ambitions, may only be able to hold onto Emery for so long, especially if a major European powerhouse comes calling. The Spaniard may have lingering frustrations with how his PSG stint played out and, as a result, want another shot with one of Europe's heavyweights.
