Greg James' BBC Radio 1 programme was thrown into chaos.

The broadcaster called a listener and explained he had a "question" for Lewis during his show with Joe Lycett during his Cowboy Time segment. Those who often tune into the programme hear Greg ask listeners what time it is at 9.50am, during which, they respond by repeating: "Ten ten ten ten ten tren ten ten."

But today's segment took a much different turn. Listeners heard a caller say: "Hello," before Greg and Lycett exclaimed his name, before he responded: "I'm here!" "You're here, but I've got a question," said Greg, before adding: "What time is it?!"

But instead of answering the simple question, the caller decided to play sex noises of a woman down the phone. Greg instantly seemed disappointed and shocked as he cut the call and said: "Oh, ok." The so-called prank hasn't gone down well on social media, with one listener branding it "crap".

"Oh no someone just played the sex tape on Radio 1," said one listener on X, formerly known as Twitter. They later followed up with: "My take: it's such a crap prank." A second added: "Genuinely boring, unimaginative, and tedious now."

"Radio 1 just got done with the sex noise," penned a third. Meanwhile, another went on to write: "It might be funny initially but this is the third time on national broadcast media... I'm really tired of this prank – yes I caught all of them live including what happened at 09.50 today..."

"The resigned disappointment in Greg James's voice," said another with a broken heart emoji. Another added: "Not @gregjames getting done like that on cowboy time." In recent days, the station has come underfire for the appointment of reality star, Jamie Laing. It was announced that the former Made In Chelsea star would be replacing Radio 1 veteran, Jordan North, following his decision to move to Capital FM.

Responding to the announcement, one enraged follower said: "No way this is who you replace Jordan with?! This is going to be insufferable driving home from work. Maybe it's finally time to change station to one with better music." "Is there no up-and-coming presenters that would of liked this opportunity, as opposed to an already rich celebrity? Poor form," said a second. While another went on to pen: "A funny show just got made unlistenable, poor Vick. If I was her I'd get out quick." "Looks like I’ll be switching stations at 15:30 then," wrote another.

BBC Radio 1 declined to comment when approached by the Mirror.
